I know that the Springfield M1903A3 has them, and certain models of the Lee-Enfield do too, although im not sure exactly which ones. Also some Swedish Mausers are equipped with the diopter sights...

Thats all i can think of right now, but I'm sure there are others out there. Anyone know of any that i haven't mentioned?

Enfield No.4 Mk.* have the peep sight. No.5 ones probably do as well. I believe the US Enfield P1917 also have peep sights.

Aperture sights, although not receiver sights on
1903 Springfield
1884 Trapdoor .45-70
Madsen M47

Receiver peep sights on
Spanish FR 7 and FR 8 Mauser rebuilds.

Probably some others, but that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

These are the ones I know of:

Springfield 1903a3
No1 MkV Trial Rifle
Lee Enfield No4 Mk1, Mk1*, Mk 1/3, Mk 1/2, Mk2
Lee Enfield L8
Lee Enfield L42 A1
Lee Enfield No 5
P14
M1917
MAS-36
FR-8

The rest were pretty much all specially made target rifles used in competition to have peep sights or diopter sights. No Arisaka got them as standard. I will have to think if there was any other in military service that had peep sights though. Maybe some of the .22 target rifles that were variants of the Springfield and Lee Enfield.

Limeyfellow that is a pretty definitive statement, from some who doesn't know what he is talking about.

Here are pictures of the standard Arisaka sights. Yes that is two independent and different aperture sights.

If you start out with the 1903A3 Springfield and call the peep sight an aperature sight.

Then you have to include every U.S. issue service rifle, carbine and sub & light machinegun made since WWI.

Let me add another

The Krag:

Philippine Constabulary carbine purchased from the CMP. On the rear sight face is a sliding aperature bar.

When the bar is down, you use the notch. When the bar is up, the aperature is in the middle of the notch.

Yea! I forgot that one.

Model 1902 U.S. Krag had a combination open & peep similiar to the 03 Springfield.

Time's Arrow being what it is, wouldn't it be the other way 'round?

Kind of confusing, the 1903 rifle with the 1905 sight and bayonet for the 1906 cartridge.

Although used as training and not service rifles by the military, many of the 22lr bolt action rifles (such as the Mossberg 44US) had aperture sights as well.

While i appreciate the input, im looking for bolt action rifles only at the moment. :)

Were there any aperature holes in the rear sights of any of the following bolt action military rifles?

1. Lee Navy in 6mm

2. Lee Remington Navy 45-70

3. Remington Keene Navy 45-70

4. Hotchkiss Navy rifle 45-70.
