I'm in love with my baby eagle 40S&W, and its my first handgun. Now I have the fever and want another. Whats there to get for around 550-600 dollars? I'm sure this has been asked a million times.
I really like the Beretta 92fs inox, but I'm still not convinced that is the next gun I need. It feels awesome and looks awesome, but none of the "gun guys" at work seem impressed, and I'm new to this and want to be sure what I'm getting is ok. I want a gun that can protect my home, travel under the car seat once in awhile, and have fun with at the range. I do not want a Glock or a Springfield XD. The grip angle is all wrong for me :(

Help me out I'm open to suggestions!

The heck with the "gun guys"

If it scratches your itch, buy the Beretta!

I put up a thread several months back about how some folks seem to "ask permission" from others while others are independent minded buyers who buy what they like on their own schedule...the "gun guys" don't need to be impressed, you do.

Other interesting alternatives would include:
- Sig' P239/P228
- SigPro
- Colt 1911 NRM
- Springfield Mil-Spec
- Beretta 92/96 (you're already looking at the INOX)
- Browning High Power is probably a little outside of your price range, but it's a classic...there are some affordable clones out there, including the Bulgarian Arcus (AimSurplus.com selling for $219). If you end up being interested in a BHP, I saw a couple good looking used ones in the $450 range this weekend...you may see similar prices in your area.
- Gotta' put in a plug for the Makarov ($150-$175) 9x18 autoloader...
- CZ-75B is a terrific value and very affordable...CZ97B is very well spoken of as a double-stack .45ACP.
- I've seen used H&K USP's in the range you describe.
- I've seen Walther P99's in the range you ID'd...

For a very good site from one of our own moderators, check out:

Mr. Camp hands down provides the best range reports I've seen anywhere. He describes several excellent values in the Autoloader category that you might consider.

Good luck!

The 92fs inox is a fine pistol. Mine has served me well! ;) But if you're looking for other options, take a good look at the HK USP 9 & the USPc 9 ;) Really at the $550-$600 range (hope you're including new & used guns), you should be able to add a really nice pistol to your collection.

I would take a hard look at a HK USP Compact in 45.
Or a Walther P99 in 9mm or even 40 to match your Baby Eagle

I have bought a lot of handguns over the last 10 years...you know what ones I think have been the best?

The Baby Eagle in 9mm I have is the best value for a handgun on the market today. I love mine and it is a great gun for the $400 that I paid.

The HK USP's and the Walther P99 are a close second. I have a USP fullsize in 9mm and a HK Compact 45. I could sell the fullsize 9mm, but will never part with the compact 45, it's just a great realiable gun.

I haven't shot my Walther P99 a whole lot, but from it's first impressions it is a great shooting pistol also.

Many people love to promote the Glocks, I just have never liked them, so I won't bash them, but I wouldn't promote them either.

Go to the gunstore a look around, I am sure you will find a lot of things to spend you hard earned cash on.

Don't forget the 1911's. A person really needs a 1911 to make their collection complete. A Springfield loaded stainless is a great place to start in the 1911.

Since you have a .40, I'd suggest a 9mm. New ammo can be had for $4.50 a box or so if you shop around.

Get the Beretta if YOU like it. It's a great gun.

Also recommend Sig Sauer & HK. Especially HK.

Screw the "gun guys" at your work. If you like the Beretta get the Beretta. It's a good gun, send it to Ernest Langdon to perform ritualistic magic on the trigger. It's your gun, it only has to make you happy. However, after Arch-Wizard Langdon enchants your Beretta, have your "gun guy" friends wet themselves over the buttery goodness of your trigger.

Thanks guys for the responses and suggestions. I'm still in love with the 92fs Inox. But I'm still considering other suggestions. I don't wanna overlook anything. But the Beretta is very very nice! :D
