This happened at the Apple Store that I frequent, in Cincinnati, OH.

CINCINNATI -- A frustrated customer at the Kenwood Towne Centre Apple store Thursday afternoon ended up going to jail after police say he showed an employee a gun.

According court records, Donald Goodrich, 38, of Westwood, was frustrated his iPhone was not working properly.

He told the employee he was, "So mad, I could pop a 9mm at it."

The employee allegedly told Goodrich there was no need for that, then Goodrich allegedly told the employee, "I'll do it right now. Look!"

Goodrich then allegedly opened the right side of his shirt, displaying a black, 9mm handgun.

Goodrich had a concealed weapon permit.

The employee told Goodrich she'd get his phone fixed and walked him over to a technician in the store, then told her manager, who called police.

Goodrich is charged with aggravated menacing, causing fear of harm to an Apple employee.

He also faces a carrying concealed weapons charge for not telling the deputy he had a gun.

Goodrich is scheduled for arraignment Friday morning.

I think that this individual deserves whatever he gets. :uhoh:

He didn't do anything constructive for either himself or the greater CCW community. :cuss: :banghead:

He deserves it for beaing like that. If you are going to carry a gun you need to be stable and controled at all situations coming out like that does represent a threat in a different situation.

The problem is that everyone knows someone including police officers who would do something like that. I agree he deserves that he gets, he makes all stable gun owners look bad.

Ditto

What an idiot!

Everyone knows you shoot the iPod before you take it in for repair...

Here again - ditto

IF all is as I read, throw his ass in jail.

That, my friends, is a fate worse than death. Imagine your poor hapless and helpless ass in a cell block with no arms, legs, or teeth to defend it. Tossed from one inmate to another like a love muffin. I'd rather be given and injection of sleep sauce (death penalty poison).

As there has been a upward spike in new CCW permit holders I believe we're gonna see more of this. "You can't fix stupid".

Obviously, this fellow should not be allowed to carry a gun until he can gain control of his emotions, which functionally, should be never again.

However, I am unclear on two things:

1. How it can be fairly said that he "menaced" the clerk. He threatened to shoot his i-pod, not the clerk. Perhaps just showing his gun constitutes menacing in OH. According to the story he did not even put his hand on his weapon, or threaten the clerk. I would think this would be another CCW violation of not concealing properly, or perhaps brandishing.

2. How could he be charged with not informing the deputy that he was armed? The presumption is that the deputy was there because the clerk called the police because he/she saw the gun. If the deputy did not know that the customer was armed, a huge communication breakdown occurred that put the deputy in grave danger.

It sounds to me like they were just piling on charges to make a point.

My gut reaction:

This guy was trying to (in his mind) look "cool" to a female.

As for this,
2. How could he be charged with not informing the deputy that he was armed? The presumption is that the deputy was there because the clerk called the police because he/she saw the gun....

I agree with this.

I doubt the failure to inform charge will stick.

For what it's worth, the Kenwood Towne Centre is a very upscale mall on the "lefty" side if town. The kind of place women get dressed to the nines just to shop at. I wonder if it's a posted no weapons zone?

I haven't looked. I don't have the money to shop there "in this economy" ;)

Let's see... I think discharging the weapon at the iphone with the clerk standing there could have caused her harm. Also, his actions could be seen as being a veiled threat.

Many states require that the CCW holder inform any law officer when approached that he is a CCW holder and is carrying. It doesn't matter if the officer already knows he has a weapon.

THR exists to further the responsible use of firearms. As such, we are not a sounding board for repeating news stories about every half-witted incompetent who does something stupid with a gun.
