This is it folks : I'm officially hanging up my ballistic gelatin whisk this week. But, I still have one block left, so I would like to know what round(s) and calibers you would like to see tested in this block.

I really appreciate all of the support and great responses that I have gotten from THR members regarding my gelatin testing. It is sometimes messy (and generally PITA) work making and shooting gelatin, but I hope that the results have brought knowledge to you and perhaps may reduce your risk on a rainy day.

I will lay out the calibers that I have available to me in the poll, and then we can poll again with respect to barrel length/ammo and go from there.

Thank you.

.40 S&W and .357 magnum/.38 SPL, since that's what I got. I voted for .40 S&W.

Ooh, if I don't get good results with my modeling clay tests tomorrow (as in, the darn clay is too darn hard, and shreds the bullets), do you think I could mail you some of my .40 cal plated handloads with the hollowpoint drilled out to expose the lead, to test?

I should warn you that they seem a little hot, though. The brass goes rocketing out of the gun and flies about 20 feet, and the kick is kinda bad. Though I went by the book, and worked up to the max load of 6.9 gr of Power Pistol with no signs of overpressure except for a tiny bit of primer flow right at 6.9 gr, but it was less flow than I've seen on the once-fired range pickups I bought online, so I think it's safe. They say you should use either a jacketed load reduced by 10%, or a cast bullet load for plated bullets, but Alliant lists the same charge for 180 gr jacketed and 180 gr cast bullets (and for 190 gr jacketed rounds, oddly). And also a lower velocity for the 180 gr lead load. Weird.

I'd like to see something that hasn't been done a thousand times before.

Like the Soviet answer to the 5.56, in other words 5.45 x 39.

That might be educational.

I'd prefer to see .32 H&R Magnum or .30 Carbine, but from your list the .38 special from a 2" snubby would be nice. Thanks.

Wal-Mart..

It seems that lots of folks are buying their ammunition from Wal-Mart. In 9X19, the Wal-Mart brand is cheap enough to make reloading not so attractive.

My vote would be for the Wal-Mart version of the 9X19 and 45 ACP..both in JHP.

salty.

.45 Rem 185+p's

I'v heard that these things are some of the best hollow points. Just wondering it there was any truth to the hype.

I totally agree. Winchester White Box Personal Protection series, preferably in all the calibers:cool:

Thanks for all of the responses. Looking at the poll results, it looks like the heavier shoulder guns like 12 gauge and 45-70 are well ahead. I do like the idea of the WWB JHP ammo. My site has this in .40 S&W but I do see where you are going with regard to that being what most people might use in their guns...(which makes those tests somewhat a priority for me.)

The 5.45x39mm is also on my site, the problem being there is not much choice in cartridges to test. The choices are FMJ and FMJ. The Wolf HP failed to deform in a water test, so I will refrain from testing it in gelatin. Are there any other bullet choices ?

Since I carry a subcompact .40 with Speer SB ammo, I'd like to see that compared to standard ammo, both from a short barrel.

5.45x39 would be interesting to compare it to the 5.56x45.

I know it is not a poll option, but I'd also like to see if the 10mm really is as powerful as a lot of people tell me.
