First let me say that im not worried about the sky falling after the election. Although i'm not worried I would like to be prepared. So I have recently purshased an AR-15 and now I find myself coming into a little more cash, roughly 500 dollars (not a whole lot but keep in mind that I am in college). What should I do with my cash? Should I buy another rifle? Should I buy a spare uppper or lower (for an AR)? Should I buy spare parts and if so what spare parts should I buy? Maybe purchase mags and ammo? Should I buy something other than these options? I need some help deciding.

SSS;

You don't specifically say, but I'm going to presume from the tone of your post, that the AR platform is the only firearm you presently own. If that's the case, let's discuss what your intentions are.

Is this a SHTF gun? If so, is it a flat-top or an A2? A bare spare lower can be had for under a hundred bucks, shipping included. I know, I just got my Stag lower earlier this week.

If it's not a SHTF gun, what uses are you going to put it to? If it's a flat-top, do you want optics? Quality optics will eat a good-sized hole in your budget, but good optics most certainly are worth the money IMHO.

Another option, that you didn't mention, is to obtain another firearm. Let's say something like a PD turn-in S&W model 65 or 66 3" or 4" .357 as a companion belt gun to the rifle. If you cruised CDNN or J&G, who knows, you might find yourself interested. That would give you an extremely reliable, highly portable, defense weapon to complement the rifle. And leave you some extra cash for a couple of magazines, a sling (very important, that!), practice ammo for both, or maybe another goodie that catches your eye. Got the cleaning equipment?

mags and ammo. I like to keep myself with 1000 rounds, and 5 mags , for each of my shtf rifles. also i spend every free weekend I can at the range. not just to sharpshoot, but to make sure i can do things, fast, instinctive, correctly, by feel, etc. Also a good scope, or acog type , or red dot, is not a bad idea either.

Training. Buy training from a competent source. This could be as close as a friend/aquaintance of yours with military combat arms experience. If not, a friend-of-a-friend will probably help you out in this regard. Nice choice in rifles too. :)

An Aimpoint and a can of Radway Green. At least that's what I'd do with 500 "disposable" dollars. That, or a Glock 21, and a couple of spare mags.

Warning wet blanket response:neener:

You say you are a college student, the answer is easy, put it in the bank. You'll have a not-so-fun use for it down the road, but then it'll be there and you wont have to sell baby to get your butt out of a jam.

Alright here is the situation. I currently have an Ar-15, a XD sub compact, and a Browning 16 ga A-5. I dont feel undergunned with this armorment. The AR currently has one mag with it (that HAS to change), the pistol has three mags (one 10rd and two 15 rgs). I currently want to spend 300 dollars on expanding my munitions so im open to suggestions (if the idea is good enough ill spend all of it). I have a credit card if it comes down to it (fear not im responsible kinda :D). Thanks for the replies!

The AR is a M4orgery 16" barrel with an A2 upper. If worse comes to worse the optics would be an Aimpoint ML2 mounted on the carry handle. It is not my priority however. I think I want at least 10 mags for the AR overall but we will see ( I have friends that can hook me up! ). I would put my cash in the bank but I do want to invest in the firearms I want now before they are gone :-(

Sorry I wasnt specific but I do have an XD Sub compact 9mm. So that is taken care of. I do appreciate the responses!

Thanks again!

I'm with CMB3366 on this one

Sounds like good advice to me. Ask anyone that's had to sell off a favorite rifle.

Alright so i've refelected on it and I have decided not to buy anymore firearms. I think ill take the majority of the money and put it in the bank. The rest will go to mags. I think ill pick up at least five more mags for the AR and maybe one or two mags for the pistol. How many magazines do you think ill need for an AR? Oh yeah this is a SHTF gun/plinker.

I'd get

1 stripped lower --- $100, you can get a parts kit $50 and a stock $55 later.

1000 roumds of ammo - I get Federal brass .223 for $180 per 1000

10 mags --- $100

That's $380 right there. Use the other $120 toward accesories for the AR (sling, optics, spare parts, etc.)

I already have a spare lower. I do have another question. What kind of optics would you mount to a A2 carry handle. I had considered a Aimpoint ML2 but what would I get if I wanted something thats inexpensive and magnified. Nothing really fancy but preferably effective. I got bored and mounted an old bushnell scope to it for the fun of it. Looks absolutely horrendous but it works. I think I would be embarassed to take it to the range. So what model of tactical scope would you all recommend?

What should I do with my money?

Send me all of it I will send you an antique .22 rim fire single shot that does not work. That will keep the Anti's Happy :D

Ammo, mags, training.

Under "ammo" consider handloading or at least become knowledgeable for when you can get around to it. Save your brass.
