I have purchased three guns this year will probably buy around February next year. My budget will be 500-800. I currently have a Glock 17, Ruger 22/45 and a Ruger GP100. I love the way a CZ P01 feels in my hand but have heard they can be problematic. Any suggestions are welcome that fit into the price range new or used. I would really appreciate any outside the box suggestions as I have access to 1911's, XD's, CZ's, Sig's and Smith's. So what do you all think I should be looking at?

Ruger...

...KP90DC...found in the used market from $350-450...a stainless .45ACP rated super-reliable and tough...leaving plenty of money for holsters, extra mags, and ammo...

Try another revolver. S&W 686 you won't go wrong.

strat8

Appreciate the response but I just got the GP100. I also live so close to the Smith and Wesson shooting center that I shoot all their performance center stuff frequently as its a $5 gun rental and I am a member with free range time. I do love their revolvers though.

Is there an advantage to this over a P345?

Walther PPS? Walther P99? Walther P99C? You are doing yourself a grave injustice if you don't take a good look at any one of those models, IMO.

Then again, get the handgun that best fits your hand and eye and that best serves your needs as you determine them.

I'm assuming this is a thread where you just want ideas... You seem to be missing some of the classics... and they are classics for a reason!

1. Look for a Browning High Power. It is on the high end of what you wanted to spend, but I think it is worth a look.

2. Big frame Smith and Wesson revolver. Pick your caliber - new to you or something you already have.

3. Something for concealed carry.

Rent before you buy - whatever you want to get.

...as politely as I can put it...there have probably been more P345s sent back to the factory with malfunctions since their release than P90s during all the years since they were introduced...some got flawless P345s, but they were rushed to retail before they worked the bugs out...the few I've handled felt too light and too thin for me...If you want a lighter .45 than the P90, I'd suggest the P97...also in the used market for $300-350...polymer frame...I have 4 P90s and 3 P97s...and never a glitch with any of them...the P97 is a bit more rounded and a bit smaller overall...a bit....
...I wouldn't buy a P345 at HALF the retail price...just don't trust 'em...

44 Magnum is a great (fun) caliber to both hunt and play with - Very flat shooting, powerful, and highly accurate. This said, I'll second the vote for Walther's PPS; and, I'll add that the Steyr, 'M-A1 Series' pistols are, also, well worth a look.

I guess it comes down to what you'd really like to do next with a handgun! ;)

The steyr looks cool...like a glock and and xd had a baby

I've never heard of a problem with a P01, what problems have you heard of? I've got it's sexy twin, the PCR, and that pistol has been absolutely flawless.

ninjataint,

 Frankly, I have never understood exactly, 'Why' Steyr didn't take more business away from Glock? The Steyr pistols were designed and built by many of the same corporate engineers who originally designed the first Glock pistols.

This group set out to beat their own earlier designs; and, by all reports, they succeeded! Steyr pistols have a much superior steel under-frame and a lot of other design features that Glocks do not have. The sights, while innovative and somewhat unusual, have been repeatedly reported to work well.

Of course, while they're still for sale in the United States and Steyr-Aug has promised to continue to provide parts and service, these pistols are no longer being actively imported or marketed here. Damned shame, really!

Try a Ruger Single-Six. It's a pain to load and unload, but it's a great gun to own and shoot. If you don't like that a S&W 63 might do the trick. They can be tough to find.

Okay, so

you have a Glock 17 Good for home defence and for carrying in the truck/car, a little too big for most people to carry concealed.

Ruger 22/45: Good range plinker though I prefer the standard Mark II or III.

Ruger GP 100 covers pretty much the same ground as the Glock, can also be used for some hunting.

What you need is a true carry gun. While you could carry the Glock or the GP 100 they are a little on the big side. Since you apparently like the Glock you might get a model 19 in 9mm or a model 23 in 40 S&W. I have the model 23 and the 32 and believe that they are just about the perfect balance of size, weight and, firepower.

Pocket Gun: Ruger LCP or Kel-tec 380. I have two LCPs though I woul/will buy a Ket-tec.

While I resisted for a very long time, every real gunner needs a 1911. There are certainly several good choices in your price range. From the Rock Island guns to the Taurus PT-1911( I have two). The Taurus guns are loaded with extras at a bargain price. I will probaly buy a Rock Island Tactical in the near future. I love bargains. You can buy a lot of gun on the used Market for $800. I have an $1100 dollar Kimber that I paid $700 for.:D

Last but not least, you probably need a large caliber revolver, just because evry real man needs a large caliber revolver. While I have owned at least half a dozen 44 mags I would recomend a good 45 colt from ruger Smith or Taurus. Another caliber that is under rated is the 41 Mag.

P-01s problematic? Haven't heard anything about that. I have a P-01 and it hasn't given me a bit a trouble. - if you like the way it feels then you might want to rethink that one.
