Soon, I'll have a Model 41 target .22 autoloader, 7 1/2" barrel, iron sights, described "as new in the box." I've noticed some Model 41 owners equip these handguns with a red dot or holographic sight. Should I consider one of these sights? Should it magnify? What should I look for? Thanks.

I have an UltraDot on my 6" Trailside, works like a charm. Had one on a 22/45 as well. That said, I'd leave the 41 alone. Shoot it with the stock irons.

You may have something about going with the iron sights before I do anything. I would probably do that anyway, since that is the right way to learn the gun. Why rush it, right? After all, I've gotten along well without such optics up to this point, though these eyes of mine aren't getting any younger.

I've got a Docter Optic on mine right now. I also use the open sights, mostly if I know I'm going to be shooting outside.

First ask yourself why put optics on your pistol? Do you need the visual help or are you just doing it because others have done it?

Good shooting, Joe. Right now, I expect to shoot outdoors until the weather forces me indoors. I imagine the iron sights should do until I know more about these other sights.

Majik, I suspect it is a little of both. True, these old eyes don't grab a sight alignment as quickly or suredly as they used to. But they are still quite functional to get through my quals easily. Real precision shooting is another matter. I guess I'm asking the question about these sights to learn more about them.
