I found a model 41 at a pawn shop, older model, compensated 7 inch barrel, target grips. SHould i buy it, the price seems insanely low. 400 bucks! Should i jump all over this deal? How accurate are these little .22's?

SlimJim,
The S&W M41, unless abused and/or damaged, is extremely accurate. I used one in NRA Bullseye competition and have one today for personal target shooting. The M41 has maintained a reputation for many years as one of the foremost .22 cal target pistols for such competition. A good M41, from machine rest with match ammo, should fire 10 shot groups of 1.0-1.5 inches at 50 yds.

Good shooting and be safe.

Check the compensator carefully.
The pistol probably started shooting wild because the comp is all filled up with lead bits, jacket material and powder fouling and the owner dumped it.
Clean the compensator up real well and the gun should shoot like a match pistol again, which is what it is.
$400.00 is a very good buy.
Even if there is something bad internally, S&W will fix it for less than what the gun is really worth.

If that gun is like my older M41, you can even remove the comp and shoot the gun without it. This was how I normally shot mine.

Good shooting and be safe.

Geezuz, I think I paid more than that 20 years ago. I'd buy it. Even though it can't be used in most, if not all, organized target shooting disciplines. Barrel's too long. (Gunparts is listing a 5.5" Millet style, fixed sight, barrel for $246.30) It'd still be a good accurate pistol. The 41 is very selective about what ammo they'll shoot and function with though.

Some model 41s are picky eaters; some aren't.

I keep seeing posts that say M41s are picky about ammo but you couldn't prove it by my experience. I had one during the early 70's that ate anything I put thru it without a hiccup. My latest M41 was bought around 1990 and it likewise takes any ammo I have tried without a problem. Granted that I don't use el cheapo promotion ammo from WalMart or Stingers but it feeds and shoots Win SuperX and CCI MiniMag in great style. Believe I have also tried Rem ammo thru it with no problems. Perhaps I have just been lucky in my two pistols but if problems are lurking then I usually run into them.

Good shooting and be safe.

I would buy it without hesitation. If it's a rusty pile then I wouldn't.

Accuracy has been excellent with mine.:)
