What speed loaders do you suggest?

I like the HKS loaders but my preference is probably based on a couple of easy to question reasons: one, they are the ones I've trained with and used for the past forty years or so and, two, I haven't tried anything else-maybe it's time that I do. :)
I have found the HKS unit to be reliable, durable and relatively affordable.

You should buy or borrow a Safariland. God bless the HKS. They work. The thing you'll notice is that any Safariland holds them hard and perfectly aligned. With all Safariland's, you just stab it/them in.. no twisting.. and drop it.

HKS or Safariland

Buy one of each. Try them out. Pick the one that suits you best. Just like choosing a handgun.

I have both the HKS and Safariland Comp I for my revolvers. I much prefer the Safariland Comp I for both carry and for use. I like pushing the loader to release rounds than trying to hold the cylinder still and twisting the knob on the HKS.

I've always been happy with the HKS.
Thanks to a poster in this thread, I am looking at those 5-Star, though...

Well I will say this.... I might just as well call it Jewelry too! especially in that snazzy leather out on the town ..... :D ..my 5 Stars have been very reliable, well built and they look very nice!

The Night stand blocks add a certain ambiance to the night stand like I have never seen.... and the small angle speed loader mount is great in the truck!

Now I understand that there may be a better product for the competition arena but I for myself do not consider them for that. They are a Made in USA product by some great american people (my Opinion).

I have used them, I have dropped them, and used them some more... no issues! I have some that are nice and new and some with carry and battle scars and wounds all over them, but they still work as intended and very well I might say.

As far as being cockeyed setting up on its spindle... Im not gonna argue with a picture, but i will say I hope i am never in a situation where i have to speed load my revolver upside down... seems to me the speed loader will not be the only problem I encounter in that situation....... :scrutiny:

After shooting a number of IDPA matches with HKS and Safariland Comp II speedloaders, I came to hate HKS and really like the Safariland speedloaders. HKS is available for more revolvers, which is the only reason I still have a few.

It's hard to get the darn rounds in the chambers with a speedloader that allows jiggle, like HKS. If you want to be fast, you need to be repeatable - which is hard when the position of the rounds is variable. I want the rounds to be held firmly in place. Also, it's easy to twist the knob on an HKS too hard which causes the rounds to bind between the speedloader and the chamber. You pull the speedloader away and lose a round or have it sticking partially out.

Safariland Comp II's do not have either problem. It's very streamlined - just line up and push. Mine have never released the rounds upon being dropped (the HKS have) or even when thrown against a wall. (I was curious!) You also can't accidentally twist the knob mid-pull and sling all your rounds across the ground. Ask me how I know you can do that with an HKS. :uhoh:
