i shot a .41 mag last saturday at some bowling pins and fell in love. If i'm to get one i don't want to pay $1 per round for just shooting at the range. at the moment i'm not into reloading so whats the going price for range ammo?

+1 on reloading, it's the only way to wring out the 41's potential not to mention being able to afford to shoot it with much regularity.

I handled a lovely used .41 Blackhawk recently for $350. Unfortunately there are others in line first, and the gun budget is frozen. :-(

Saw a lovely 4-inch Model 57 a few weeks ago and the shop had one box of ammo in stock, for $65. I'd say reloading is the way to go.

What is the current price for .41 mag? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.
I have two model 57, four inch nickled and a blue 6 inch.
The four inch is a no dash and was given to me along with a box of WW missing 18 rounds.
Price sticker was still on the box. 50 WW 210 HP, $27.95.

BTW if any one knows of a blue 57, 8 3/8" barrel for sale let me know.
Can't beleive how hard it is to find one of those.

The 6 inch.

I haven't looked in the past month or so.

Earlier in the summer, I saw box of 50 at Gander Mountain for $79. At a local shop, boxes of 25 were going for about $20.

Ya gotta love a 41 to pass a 44 for it, 'cause ya really pay for it.

527, you can get a decent starter kit (everything you need) for about $150. I'd recommend a Lee Turret Press. Riley's or KTP can fix you up with powder and primers.

One of the least expensive places to buy 41 mag rounds is Georgia Arms.

Overall, the price of factory loads does bug me. But not enough to shift to 44 mag. For comparable ammo, 41's and 44's are about the same price. Harder to find 41 mag ammo. The big difference is you can't buy 41 mag (Winchester White Box) at Walmart.

The $79 price tag at Gander had to be Remington ammo. It was not cheap last year although I bought a couple boxes at Gander because I "knew" the price was going to be going up. I don't recall the price, but it was something like $40/box of 50 (Remington).

Hand loading is the way to go really with either the 41 or 44 mag. I have quite a bit of 41 mag ammo cached away. Replacement cost is high though.

Try shooting factory loaded 500 S&W if you want to see "expensive". Unfortunately, you are going to have to get used to the $1/round kind of number unless you reload.

After 30+ years I am re acquainting myself with it. If cost is your bottom line then stay away. Dies are the same price. The caliber is a challenge. Georgia Arms has your best price for ammo. Cabellas has good prices on 41 brass right now. If you want something different 41 is the way to go.

I much prefer the 41 mag to 44 mag. To start out, order about 250 rounds from Georgia Arms. They make very good ammo. If you think you are going to be burning up the ammo at the range, then get 500 rounds or 10 boxes of 50. After that, buy a little at a time as you find it unless you really shoot a lot. Save your brass. Eventually you may reload or somebody you trust may load them for you.

Georgia Arms did or does sell "cowboy loads" in 41 mag. They are very lightly loaded and are the least expensive. I have only bought them at gunshows where GA Arms had a table. You may have to call them if you want this load. They sell them in "bags" of 50.
