303 Enfield hunting rifle for sale

I’m selling my nephew’s .303 Lee Enfield rifle as he needs the money for college. It looks like its good shape and has a sling, scope and 10 round mag. The scope is a BSA 3-9 power. Looks like this started life as and No. 1 Mk 3 BSA 1918 and was then converted by Santa Fe (Golden State Arms) to one of their jungle carbines in the 50’s or 60’s. Someone has since removed the muzzle brake and added the mounts and scope. The action on this one is really smooth but don’t know much else about it.

Looking for 250.00 OBO

A bill of sale will be required and you must provide valid Utah ID.

here its older brother on the web check the vent front stock just like the one for sale

With six of these conversions in the survey, this model seems to be the most widely circulated of the Santa Fe Enfields. The Jungle Carbine came originally with a No. 5 rifle buttstock, shortened military fore-end, "Santa Fe" 5-round magazine, and flash hider. Original No. 4 rifle rear sight. One of the six was outfitted with Bishop sporter furniture--probably added after purchase. Overall length is 39 inches, with an 18-1/2 or 19-inch barrel

Considering it started out - or became - a GSA frankenstein SMLE, I think this result is kinda cool. The iron sights on those MORE than sucked.

Of course, the irony of one of those *Jungle* butt pads on a custom is not lost on me. Ar this point, I'd switch it out for a nice vintage white-line or pachmayr Field-Pad.

Todd.

Free brass. 308 and 303 British. Must take all of it. I believe there are 60 of 303 and 120 of 308. Text is best, don’t waste my time.

Maybe the owner can’t stand the recoil.

My all-original Enfield 5s weren’t really that bad, but new-found attraction to Sig-Sauer series and imported AKs stole the affection which had been with Enfield 5 and 4 originals.

Without the original military configuration, Enfields lie on gun show tables looking so forlorn and lonely.

For $250 obo? Why not? Would be a sweet, lightweight, fast handling, walking rifle for sure. And you wouldn’t have to worry about banging it up a little. I don’t know about most folks. But I actually have rifles I won’t hunt with because I’m afraid of getting them nicked or scratched up.

I wouldn’t want that particular scope. But that’s just me.

Sad thing is, those *jungle* pads actually, paradoxically, make things worse. Being hockey-puck hard and concentrating what recoil there is in a much smaller area. I know mine is definitely one you want to shoot much in a tee-shirt.

Though, they sure do look cool & purposeful.

Surplus Enfields are still common as mud and even Mosins are catching up with them in what is still, quite a low price.

There is a legit Jungle Carbibe for sale locally here for $500 which is fair. The real jungle carbines will probably go up in time though.

So long as you stay far away from Classic Firearms. Gunbroker is the best for looking for those hidden gems.

A truly LEGITIMATE J.C. for only 500?

You oughta jump on that yesterday!

Todd.

It says No 5 Mk 1 and has the receiver milled to lighten it up.

They are going for around 500 on GB.
I guess I routinely miss the real ones that are complete and correct, actually selling for 500 or near it. I certainly don't see it in person amongst dealers.
Right sight, honest markings, light receiver, hollowed bolt handle, correct butt, etc... I see LOTS of incomplete, fake, Indian or later production but a REAL one - assuming damn fine shape - I'd jump on for 500 most quickly.

Well I had been thinking about it anyway and you convinced me. Told the shop to set it aside for me.

I seem to do that a lot.

If you don't already have one - you won't regret it. Not meaning to be condescending, note the particulars of sight and bolt before paying up too.

Todd.

It has the hollowed bolt too and the same sight that is on a No4 MK1. At least that is what it looks like to me. I have a No4 MK1 so I know it is very similar to it. Definitely not the barrel mounted sight of an SMLE No1 Mk3 type.

Built at Fazakerly which, along with BSA were the only plants that made the No5.

It checks all the boxes outlined on this link:

Excellent.

I carried mine for some time as a heavy-hitter woods carbine but it's too pretty and I bought a fine FR-8 anyhow so .308 became an option.

Todd.

The nephew "needs money for college"? $200 is only like one semester of books. Not even enough for a decent roda trip, not at today's prices. Sorry, that booger needs a much better story than that [:)]
One semester... More like 1 class of book(s) if you buy from the book store.

Granted, used and online stretches that out.

But hey, maybe it's a course at community college....
