I have a lower begging to be used. I have a 24" RRA varmint rifle and love it. and a few basic carbines. i kinda always wanted a 20" rifle but im not sure of that now, ive been looking at 16" bull barreled A3 uppers and cant decide on a DPMS sweet 16 or a 16" Rock River varmint. I can get the DPMS for 520$ and can get the RRA for 610$. So...... What do ya'll think? or is there a upper im overlooking in a 16" bull?

I'm just curious, what is the allure of a 16" bull barrel, if you already have a 24" varmint upper, which presumably has an HBAR or bull barrel already. If I already had a heavy, accurate upper I would be looking for something lighter.

Well the RRA 24 is weighted with lead so far ive taken 6 coyotes and a woodchuck. Its pretty much a stationary gun for me im not really wanting to lug it around the woods. My other carbines are profile barrels and are A1 and A2 uppers. Basically what im looking for is a woods carbine that a luepold 3x9x33 scope will be mounted, A2 stock. alot of my bolt rifles are 1" SS bull barrels and they seem to swing better and i seem to hold them still better than my lighter barrels. I dont know Id rather put this lower into service rather than buy something else.

I'd forget the idea of a woods carbine based on a bull barrel. A rifle only needs to be so heavy to swing properly. Anything more than is needed is just unwanted weight. I'd build something based on one of the slimmer custom profiles with a mid length gas system. Something like the 16" White Oak that Ranier Arms offers or the 16" SS410 barrel that Bravo Company offers.

Like TonyAngel said, forget about bull barrels for anything you're going to carry with you. I built one with M1S 16" fluted barrel flat top free float upper and and while its accuracy is top notch (especially after hand-lapping), it's way, WAY too heavy to lug around in the woods.

I've got a lightweight suppressed 11" with a tele-stock for that purpose. Very short, reasonably lighweight and with a quality scope it's quite accurate; highly recommended.

I built a RR from scratch....mid-length heavy stainless.....extremely accurate rifle. RR stated to me that the bbls are by Wilson...regardless, that bbl and length of build far exceeded my best expectations.........well under 1moa at a hundred!

Not at all impractical as a woods rifle.

+1 thats a dream gun! But since Im in Michigan...................Thats a legal no no

I found a 22" bull upper with a NM wilson bbl. I way just set up another target\varmint rig

Really, if you're a big guy and lugging a 12 or 13lb (or heavier) AR around doesn't bug you, then go with looks pretty to you. The root of what I was trying to convey is that you don't need a heavy bull barrel to get MOA accuracy (or better).

Steve CT that is what i am wanting and that is a beautiful bull setup! Idk different strokes for different folks and all that rubbish. 16" bull is the way im going, heavy guns dont bother me. I love my weighted 24" Im just wanting something kinda the same but kinda not.

Well, if that's what you want, I'd go with the RRA. Their Wilson barrels shoot pretty good. It's just too bad that they don't offer that configuration with a mid length gas system.

I have the RR 16" varminter. I like it a lot, great for coyotes. It's very very accurate and, as long as I don't do CQB drills with it, not unwieldy at all.
