I've got a bunch of M16 mags, they're all serviceable, but they're starting to look really ratty from use.

What's the best way to refinish them? Spray paint?

I now people who've gotten good results from Gun Kote and Brownells Baking Laquer....Personally if they are serviceable, I don't care what they look like.

When my magazines get ratty looking I just leave them that way, although I will clean off any rust. I had a handful of brand new magazines for my PC9 grow feet when I was downrange changing targets one time, they left the old ones. :cuss:

I actually kinda like the look of old ratty looking magazines - if i made them that way i mean - because it gives me a sense of pleasure knowing i've done my part in practicing and just having fun using them :)

....of course, ratty looking doesn't mean broken. As long as they work, ugly IS beautiful to me! :D

You do know it is perfectly legal to refurbish your grand-fathered normal capacity magazines here in the PRK?

Do what I did, buy new magazine bodies and replace the dingy ones. I went out of my way to buy ones with "Law Enforcement Only" stamped on them, now that they are legal again.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I was aware of that, but not completely sure how to go about doing it. Most companies won't ship "hi-capacity" mags to California. I don't have receipts proving that I owned them prior to the ban.

Almost any gun show (even the Cow Palace show) has dealers with parts for sale- springs, followers and base plates are most common. But you can find bodies there too, you might have to ask around.

Another possibility is finding someone offering mags for sale and asking for them just to sell you the body. They may charge you the same price as a complete mag (happened to me) but you gotta do what you gotta do.
