What to get GF for multi-state travel

Hi all - my girlfriend is about to embark on a summer-long, multi-state driving trip which will include events in CA, WA, NJ, FL, and ME and other states that will be driven through. Obviously her snubbie won't be legal, so I've been looking for an alternative to give her at least some sort of protection. I was outraged to find that Kali wouldn't even allow her an expandable baton - how is a female to legally defend herself? Why the hell anyone would want to live there is beyond me. Anyway, fat lot of good my anger will do to help the situation.

So - anybody know if pepper spray/taser/rpg/anything would be legal for her to carry in most of the US?

An 8% O.C. foam w/ UV dye should do the trick nicely.

There's no 'safety' on the cop-top, though, so you might look at a flip-top.

Don't forget to pick up a few Sudecon wipes along with it and make sure she carries them with her in case she has to unleash that stuff.
 
I am gonna agree with DHJenkins, some sort of pepper spray/mace with UV dye looks like the way to go...
 
For future trips, you might see if she'd be up for getting a Utah concealed carry license. I'm not sure how many states it's honored in, but I think it's over 30.
 
You might want to look into a whistle for the California trip. But I would check on that first. What a freakin cesspool that damn state is!!!!!!
 
She can stop at the first convenience store she gets to in California and purchase pepper spray from the counter display. It is legal here. Tell her to keep the receipt to show that she bought it here. I wish that CA had reciprocity, but what we have is what we have.

Serious:Are you saying that you can't even bring in pepper spray from other states?
Sarcastic: Do you need a carry permit, tell the sheriff, or have a limit on (shots)sprays from it? LOL

I suppose you can bring it in from another state. I was just saying that it is very easy to obtain. My local supermarket has them in blister packs at the check out aisle by the gum, candy bars and toenail clippers. I've seen them on counter displays at shop and robs. I don't remember what I was thinking when I wrote about the receipt. Brain f**t I guess.

What most people consider the weirdness of CA happens in 13 counties along the coast from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The other 45 counties are rather conservative. There is a proposal going around to divide California into two states, West California (with the fruit cakes, nuts, and weirdos) and California (with the farmers, dairymen, and ranchers). It may make it on a ballot for a vote in 2010 if enough signatures can be gathered. I would love to see that. As my location states "the red part of a blue state".
 
Since nobody has mentioned it:

Remind her that for the majority of this trip she'll be sitting in a "weapon" that regularly kills more people per year than guns, bombs, cannons, and tanks combined. That's if she can't use it for it's primary purpose; to transport herself quickly to a different location. ;)

A fresh, new Aerosol can of 'Foamy Engine Brite' ...

Totally innocuous...toally innocent...squirts very accurately to twelve feet or better...and will definitely occasion prompt demure if gotten into the Eyes of any unpleasant person.

I clings well...and saturates around where it clings.


Works good for de-greasing Engines too...
 
OC spray and situational awareness is probably the best bet.

A stun gun might also be an option.

Based on a brief internet search, it appears that stun guns are legal to carry in California as long as she doesn't visit any university campuses, government buildings, or "any meeting required to be open to the public" (not sure what that means, exactly).

Anyone know about a Taser? I don't have a clue but it is a possibility that it might be legal to carry without all the legal garbage, and it might not be to.
 
3 or 4 cell maglight could be useful to keep in the car....I keep a 3 cell on the truck seat and its hefty enough to inflict a bit o pain...
 
If the intent is something innocuous, then my suggestion would be a tool of some sort monkey wrench, ball-peen hammer, or socket wrench. Hell one of those cold steal spetsnatz shovels would be nasty as all get out and possibly ok for komiefornia. An easily explainable tool should be ok in most instances. And one that no one mentions often a plane Janie ordinary old rock…

OC spray.

Flashlight. Long C-cell Maglight or similar. You can get a streamlight rechargeable that plugs into the lighter, gives an excuse to have it near at hand in the car.
