I'll be picking up my very first rifle tomorrow, a Sagia in 7.62. I've only owned handguns before so this will be my first time doing longer distance shooting. The shooting range I'll be using is 100 yards so I was wondering what I can use to view my shots on the target. My budget is very limited and I'm hoping I can just pick up the cheapest binoculars I can find. Will that work or is there a more preferred method aside from big dollar spotting scopes?

if you want cheap but deacent i have a braska 25-60 power spot that i use, it was free, and it get the job done but at 100 yards the holes from a 762 ar big enough to see with a 3-9 scope. a good par of 10 power binos shoud do fine if your only shooting 100 yards

A spotting scope that can resolve a .22 hole at 200 yards is good investment. I am not sure that cheap binoculars would cut it. Try and test them at the store before you buy.

Either a spotting scope, decent pair of binos, or if nothing else; just grab some shoot n see targets...

Can pick some up and most sporting goods stores/departments.

You probably already know but, I stay away from targets with black paper....kinda makes it a little harder to see a bullet hole, unless you're shooting into a bright backdrop or shooting into the sun.:what:

I have found that these El Cheapo telescopes of 20X-60X work okay up to about 40X and get fuzzy after that. I found a halfway-decent used camera tripod for one of those. The rig has worked just fine for some thirty years, so far.

I just got a Barska 4x28 scope. It was in my budget. I have only used it at the range once, but it definately helps me at 50+ yards. I had a 1" group at 50 yards using it right after zeroing it. I need to go back out and try it again. I can't fully recommend it since I'm still testing, but my first experience was acceptable.

This was put on my SGL21 (Saiga 7.62x39) with a UTG (quick release) side rail mount.

Binoculars might still be useful to check the target in detail at 100 yards. For 50 yards, the 4x scope worked fine for me for both target and to see the results at that distance.

you know, shoot 'n see targets are a heckuva lot cheaper than optics if you're just going to sight in a gun once. over time they'd prob add up

+1 for shoot n' see

My Scope and binos came from garage sales...can't beat 10 bucks for a Zeiss spotting scope and a 5' tripod. The guy told me bird watching would never be the same. Now i see the fliers.

Thanks for the replies guys. I ended up getting a cheap pair of 10x binocs from Bass Pro and they seem like they'll work fine for me.

7.62 tracer + gas can.

You'll know when you hit it.

Seriously though, shoot n see + a cheap pair of binoculars will work.

I have an cheap Bushnell 10-50x spotting scope I picked up at a gun show for 25.00. The optics are decent and clear, and I can make out 22 holes at 150 yards.

A good spotting scope is one thing I need to invest in. I have a Simmons 20x60x60 now and it just will not pick up a 223 hole at 200yds. I ordered a Bushnell last yr but it was junk and I sent it back and got my $300 back.

My 6x18 scope is better than the spotting scope I have now, I might just go up to a 6X25 scope and kill two birds with one stone. From what I can tell good spotting scopes start at $400

While I would never rob someone of the pleasure of shooting things that burn or explode when you hit them, I have found that a more practical way is to get one of the steel targets that spin when you hit them. Take a can of orange spray paint to touch it up as you go.

Milk jugs filled with water are always fun, but I will insist that you pick up your litter. :)

with a $200 32x scope I can see each 6mm hole at 100 yards, but cannot see the .223 holes at 300 yards. With a $75 20-60x spotting scope--I can't see the .223 at 300 either! Guess a $75 spotting scope isn't worth much more than $75 (lol). I looked through a fella's $130 32x scope and I think it was just as clear as my $200 32x scope. (I haven't gotten to study the real expensive ones, 'cause couldn't affford them anyway).
