I was setting up my new lyman 4500 lubrisizer and realized that I don't have a top punch! So which top punch is the right size/shape for a 200 gr swc .452 bullet?

Assuming you have a Lyman mold, the top punch is going to be a #460 for both the Lyman #452460 and the #542630 200 grain SWC molds.

If it's a Lee mold, your guess is as good as mine.

yeah, it's a lee 6 cavity mold, non tumble lube of course, I have a feeling this is going to be frustrating...

GI,
I had a similar problem with a Lee mold and wanting to run it through my 4500,the mold is a .45 Colt RNFP 452-255 which has a huge meplat and I used a Lyman# 649 top punch with no deformation, I also used it on a Lyman 452-490 255gr LSWCGC even though I had the correct top punch for that mold (temporary missplaced it) which is a Lyman #424

I believe either would work for your application, with the 424 being very close to many of the Lee LSWC designs. I was seating gas checks with the # 649 so you had to put on a little more pressure and still did not have any deformation of the bullet nose.

I have been known to custom fit a top punch to a weird bullet design using epoxy bedding or J-B Weld. Just be sure to use release agent or paste wax on the bullet so you don't glue it to the top punch!!

Works perfectly, and the top punch can be returned to normal by heating the epoxy out.

GI,

On another train of thought, you can use the Lee liquid alox to lube non-tumble lube bullets make a small container ( different size bottle caps work well) just large enough to fit one or two bullets at a time ,fill it just enough to cover the lube cannelures dip the bullets then set them on some wax paper to dry, you don't have to fill the lube cannelures full to the get the lube needed to stop leading ,but just enough to cover the bullet.

Here is a list for Lee Molds.
