Most wheel bearing grease is about right. I got some of the synthetic stuff but it may be overkill considering how almost any grease will work fine for guns.

The only guns I use grease on are those that are designed to run on grease like M1s. I found Mobil 1 is great stuff. Never dries up, water doesn't wash it off, and it's about $8 a cartridge at Auto Zone.

I like the Mystic red high temp bearing grease, it doesn't smell too bad.( I kinda like the smell of grease though) Its about 5 bucks a tube at wally world and holds up really well.

Automotive assembly grease with both molybdenum disulfide and graphite is one of my favorites. It works beautifully for getting the very best out of a well tuned revolver.

I suggest "oil for things that rotate and grease for things that slide".

These are the products I recommend:

In my experience these claims are all true.

If you are going to go cheap as possible there are much better places to do it than weapon lube. It represents such a small part of the cost of shooting why not go for the best. That doesn't mean I endorse trying everything that comes down the pike.

If you want to go really cheap and still use a quality product just buy a quart of Mobile 1 20-50 motorcycle oil. It is actually an excellent gun lube. (I think it is called Mobile 1 20-50 VTWIN)
