What was the BEST deal you ever got?

I found a like new in box/never fired FN49 from 1964. It was still wrapped and the USPS label was still on the outside box. It was at a now closed Orvis. The Orvis shop owner said an older gentleman traded it towards an expensive shotgun. The Orvis shop did not want it and sold it to me for $375. I did some research online. I was even contacted by a gun historian. I sold it the following week for $1400 on Gunbroker.

...jjj

Not me, but the hubby got a Sig Sauer GSR free. It wasn't feeding reliably and the owner wanted to just be rid of it. Hubby is an armorer for a lot of guns including Sig Sauer; he had it functioning flawlessly in about 15 minutes.

He also got an HK P7M8 in trade for an hour's work on a jamming MP5.

The one good deal that I got was about 12 years ago. A bunch of friends from work and I were discussing going deer hunting, one of the guys that wasn't going asked if anyone wanted to buy a deer rifle. We sort of ignored him and he asked again, someone asked him what it was, "a Winchester Featherweight .243 with soft case and a 3x9" on it. Somebody else I'll give you a $100.00 for it. "No; I'd have to have more than that, how about $125.00"? I had been looking at a Featherweight in .270 but bought a Ruger 77 in 30/06 instead as I like the 06 better (I know there isn't a hairs bit of difference in them, but.) I hollered out SOLD before anyone else could say a thing. Turns out it was a Lightweight instead with a 20" barrel, but it is a shooter and awful handy to carry. I haven't shot it in years but I've got a brand new grandson that is eyeballing it. :) Well, it's got his name on it anyway. It wasn't a great a deal as if it had been the Featherweight, but I'm still pretty pleased.

This Saturday I was at my local range/gun store and I see a new Kahr P45 priced at $559. While this was one I was going to buy later in the year, at that price it went home with me.

I was at my dealer last evening picking up 2 I traded for and he looked up his cost from distributors and the lowest was $570 plus shipping - I'm pumped!

A new in box Escort Marine Guard pump 12ga with 18in barrel for $100 cash
and a older but still beautiful Remington 870 20ga with 28in barrel

I haven't had any incredible deals, but the two best were:

Makarov - ~$180 OTD in-store (this was about 2.5 years ago, when the prices really started to rise).
Springfield Loaded in 9mm - Lightly used from the looks of it, $625 (think they go for ~$800-900 new).

i bought a fal from gunbroker and paid for it. a few days later the guy calls and says i can't have the gun because he broke it. i told him im pretty handy so send it along and knock some $ off so i can buy the parts to fix it. he offers instead to send me a second fal that is broken and i can just take 2 and make one. i was not pleased but i agreed. a few days go by and i get an fal and a cetme. this guy didn't know that fal charging handles are collapsible, and he thought the cetme was a fal. so the fal is not broken, the cetme was assembled incorrectly. 2 perfectly fine working battle rifles for $500

I purchased a Romanian Dragunov from a pawn shop for $400.00. He thought is was an AK. It turned out to be on of the guns that Century Arms is recalling due to them being FULL AUTO! I am still awaiting my replacement gun!

oh yeah, from a couple whose father had died.

century cetme $350
centruy fal $350
mini14 $350
norinco mac90 $250

she gave me a package price of 1250. woohoo!!

There was a moron in my unit. This guy missed a formation, and didn't answer his phone, so our squad leader had to go to his house and see if he was alive or what. He had been up all night drinking and smoking pot the night prior, which is why he didn't show up for PT.

So, with the article 15, and now an E-Nothing, he was strapped for cash. He knew he was facing a dishonorable, so he was trying to pull the "oh well Im a conscientious objector! Im a buddhist (all of a sudden) i need to get an honorable discharge".

Now, he did have a very nice Springfield XD-9 that I had shot before, in very good condition. And I say to him, "So, you're trying to convince people youre a buddhist, and yet you have a 9mm... (and in the Army), and I see your strapped for cash all of a sudden...."

Long story short, I got an almost new Springfield XD-9, for 300$.

used kahr k40 LNIB 5 extra 7rd mags (7total) tritium night sights...... 435 out the door....

Free stuff - sort of

Two of my guns I won at Friends of NRA dinners. I won a Weatherby Athena grade III on a 100 dollar raffle (for the 100 bucks I got a 200 dollar Brownells leather range bag). 2200 dollar value. The other was an Italian 1875 Sharps in 45-70 on a 20 dollar raffle. 700 dollar value.

If you have not gone to Friends of NRA dinner shame on you. You can win a tremendous deal on firearms or hunting trips or just general gear. I have seen african trips go for 5K. What you don't win makes a contribution to the NRA. Plus you get to take the wife out for an evening (bonus points when you screw up later in the year!)
