Believe it or not, .32 revolvers were mainline issue for many police departments a century ago. This fact may shock some of our readers, but it is true. Indeed, NYC police carried .32 Colt revolvers in the early years of the twentieth century. So, my question is what was the last major American police force to issue a .32 revolver as its standard sidearm? I suspect we will see a health exchange of opinions about .32 cartridges here.

Let me broaden this thread a bit. Do our members believe this choice was justifiable in the past? Why do you believe departments willingly made this selection? By broading this thread, it may become more interesting.

I believe that LAPD and NYPD plainclothes officers carried I frame Terriers well into the 50's and 60's IIRC.

A buddy of mine's a retired NYPD civilian employee and sort of an amateur NYPD historian. I'll do some checking.
