What was the shortest time it took to to go through the NFA process? What year was it? What was the item?

Back in the early 70's I had several Form 3s for MGs approved and returned in just over three weeks. Ah those were the days.

Mine took 6 months and 1 week. The form was mailed in 9-4-2012 and I received my stamp on 3-12-2013. It was for a suppressor.

Just received a Form 1 back on a short-barreled shotgun. Submitted August 26, received November 26. 3 months. On eForms. (See the other active thread for a discussion of whether this is a fluke or normal for eForms.)

Form 4 from a private seller.

Mailed downtown from near the Sheriff's office after his signing on a Monday afternoon.

Tom, the seller, called the following week on Wednesday to say the form was back. Nine days, including the weekend.
I call it two weeks, because work kept me from driving over to pick it up until that Saturday.

Both he and I were surprised by that one.

Your results may vary however. LOLs on that one. IIRC, form 4 transfers were 3 months at that time.

I had two form 1's take 58 days just prior to Obama being sworn in in 2008

My first suppressor GemTech Outback II took 3 weeks from shipping to approval...I believe it was in 2006.

My Tromix SBS took 3 months in 2008 and that was a long wait compared to the Outback II.

My TBAC has been even more painful as I bought the suppressor last November and I'm still waiting approval.

AOW purchase

I bought my first NFA item, a mossy 590A1 w/14" barrel, and it took about 3 and a half months from start to finish. This was 3 years ago this past July. My other two NFA items (SBR AR15 and a 37mm DD) took right around 6-7 months each.

The paperwork for my cousins original Sturmgewehr went along quickly ( maybe 3 - 4 months ); but the 28 Thompson took longer 7 -8 ( maybe 9 months ). Go figure. Our old aunt left us some money - he bought guns - I got grandchildren. But I'm still treating myself to a 45 70 Sharps.
