What would a Palmetto Premium 16" with FSB do on paper at 100yds?

I'd like to build a nice target semi auto that will do MOA or better. Once in a while Palmetto has their premium Chrome Lined Magnetic Partical 16" barrelled upper with a F marked front sight bracket on sale for around $250 or so. Seems like a great deal. But will this do the trick (MOA or better from a rest with good handloads and a scope)?

If I need to spend more on a barrel or free floated handguard, it'd probably be worth the extra as long as it doesn't double or triple the up front cost.
 
My father in law has that barrel with a FF handguard and it shoots 1moa with black hills heavy weight ammo on a calm day. He's got a 4x optic on it FWIW.
 
I've read that these things can/could/might/will depending on who you ask hurt the accuracy:
-non free floating handguard
-the pins on the sight bracket putting pressure on the barrel

I wonder if that's the case. I would think the same pressure on the handguard in the same exact place everytime would still give a predictable result. Seems like free floating handguards aren't cheap.
 
You'll have better luck with one of their stainless barrels, and a free floating hand guard. You're expecting a lot out of low cost milspecish parts and configurations. Will it do it. It's possible.
 
If you're wanting cheap accuracy Rock River Arms barrels (with their .223 Wylde chamber) are famous for their accuracy.

I have to agree, although I also have to comment on the Wylde chamber and my experience with it. RRA advertises this chamber as being capable of shooting both 5.56 and .223 ammo, however the one I had would not reliably shoot 5.56.
 
I have sat and watched a couple guys work up loads checking chrony numbers and still shoot .300 groups at 100 yards with matching RRA 24" varments with the only change being jard 2lb triggers.
 
I would consider it a 1.5moa upper, some loads better, some worse. However, if you get one of PSA's hammer forged barrels produced by FN, they are true moa. My FN, chrome lined, free floated .625 pencil barrel was capable of 1 MOA groups, with a 2moa Aimpoint. Ive never tried a magnified optic on it (with this accuracy, why bother?). Its a 1/7 twist and 1moa was achieved with cheap Federal American Eagle 50gr HP's. :what:
 
My BCM midlength lightweight 16" barreled uppers can hold 1.25MOA with non-free floated handguards and PMC ammo. I'd expect them to get better if free floated and using match ammo.

How much is a decent RRA barrel and where to buy? Seems like the Douglas or Krieger will end up around $350 or $450 for a Stainless from Compass Lake. I've read a lot of reports that 1/2 MOA is pretty common for those two match barrels.
 
I stongly suggest one of the Rainier Arms match barrels for affordable accuracy. $250 spent on one should deliver sub-MOA accuracy with good ammo.
 
RRA uses Wilson barrels. I've owned both RRA and Armalite rifles with Wilson barrels and was pleased with both. Actually shot out my Armalite and replaced it with another. Midway sells them, for one.
