The gun club at my college has, competition-wise, been traditionally focused on rifles. We have several S&W Model 41's, but they are older than I am and starting to get to the end of their useful lives. The club has become financially well-off and is looking to add some new and reliable pistols to its arsenal. For new shooters and those not focused on competition we will be getting half dozen or so Ruger Mark IIIs, but interest in pistol competition is growing rapidly, and we'd also like to add one or two dedicated competition guns, as well.
Originally we were looking at an FWB AW93 (I think I got the model number right) but they're pricey, and it will be a long time before anyone in the club will be shooting at a level that will require that sort of gun. Right now we are looking for something in the 1000-1500 dollar range. Here's a rundown of our requirements:
1) Semi-auto. We've already got a couple nice free pistols.
2) Reliability. We want it to go bang every time, and more importantly, be free of failures-to-extract. Being able to function on cheap ammo would be a plus as well. At the moment the club is using Ely Sport, but sometimes University regulations and red tape regarding bulk ammo purchases force us to use whatever Wal-Mart has at the moment.
3) Easy maintenance. We're not professional gunsmiths, but a good many of us have a lot of experience servicing service weapons and the pistols we own currently. (41s, Mark IIs, Buckmarks) We'd like to have a gun that we can fix and maintain ourselves without having to send it off for factory service.
4) Adjustable trigger.
Right now we're looking at Pardinis, Benellis, and... I'm completely blanking on the name of the other manufacturer... starts with "M" and ends in "ini"... Mandini, I think? Anyway, any feedback on these guns, or other options anyone may know of would be greatly appreciated. Any information on good dealers to acquire them from would be appreciated, as well.
