What would be the SAO or DA/SA equivalent of the P-238?

And the XDE is not small by any standard, based on the specs I've seen. It's pretty much the same size as a Sig P239 is it not, only lighter by a bit?

XDE - 5" x 6.75" x 1" and 25 oz.
239 - 5.1" x 6.6" x 1.1" and 29 oz.

Dang, aint much smaller than the p245

Yeah, I think there's really only so small you can make a hammer-fired DA/SA pistol.

The LCP is faux DAO but I have the Custom version since it has sights you can use. Contemplating buying another since they are available again. The Sig P290RS is larger but *was* made in a .380 version but why buy that when you can get a 9mm that's the same size providing you don't have a disability that prevents you from using the 9mm version?

ETA - If you get an LCP, and I recommend the Custom for the sights and trigger pull, I'd put a Hogue Handall grip on it. Yes, it makes it thicker but it sure does tame the little beast.

"I don't want to reach in there, bump the safe, and BANG!"
you would still have to take it out of the holster and PULL the trigger to go BANG, but if you're unconfortable with C&L I'm OK with it.

That is me. I understand millions have done so safely for longer than I've been alive...but it freaks me out. Pity, since in every other way I really like the 238...
Interesting. I pocket carry a cocked-and-locked P938 in a Desantis Super Fly holster every day. It took a little while to adjust to the it, I'll admit. Nowadays though, it's the idea of carrying a loaded striker fired pistol in my pocket that freaks me out.

A clarification for other readers - remember there is a big difference between the LCP and LCP II. With the LCP II on the market, and for under $300, I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy ANY of the original frame LCP's. When the Gen 2 LCP came out, I said the same about it - I'd never recommend a Gen 1 again, since the Gen 2 had a considerably better set of sights, and better trigger, and the LCP II improved further still on the trigger and sights, as well as a better grip shape AND an LSHO. All without increasing the price. I paid the same price for my LCP II a few months ago as I paid for my first Gen 1 LCP in 2009 - $273.

The LCP II is a completely different design: a single action pistol with a highly secure positive angle sear and a trigger block safety. However, the original LCP, including the Gen 1, Gen 2, and Custom, were all DAO - nothing "faux" about it. The trigger stroke cocked the hammer (1) and tripped the sear (2), and it could ONLY operate that way. Folks like 1moreford seem to like to pretend it's not a double action because they can't repeat the trigger pull without cycling the slide - however, that does NOT negate the DAO function of the trigger. That's simply a function of the recoil assist hammer cocking feature - essentially a half-cock notch, the slide partially cocks the hammer, making the trigger pull lighter than it otherwise would be. The Galloway trigger in the Custom was better than the Gen 1 trigger by a long shot, but only slightly better than the Gen 2 LCP trigger, and NOT better than the LCP II. The sights on the Custom are better for the range, but they're snag city for pocket carry, even in a pocket holster. The Gen 1 LCP sights were abysmal for range use, but with a little white paint on the front blade, the sights are more than sufficient for close range defensive shooting, and not completely unusable for range work - I shoot mine regularly at 50yrds on 6" and 8" gongs. The integral sights on the Gen 2 LCP are markedly better than the Gen 1's, and the LCP II's are very similar - small integral sights, much better than the Gen 1, but not as snag prone as the Custom. I have a Custom and a Gen 1 with a Galloway trigger (i.e. same trigger), I don't carry my custom, I do carry my stock Gen 1 as well as my Galloway converted Gen 1. My wife carries a Gen 2. I just purchased an LCP II about 2 months ago, and have carried it a bit, but I haven't made a holster for it yet for my preferred carry method. The LCP II also has an LSHO, which isn't really a big deal for a pocket pistol, but it's nice to have.

The Hogue handall sleeve for the original LCP's (not LCP II's, yet), are a worthwhile addition. The sides of the grip flat, almost concave with the checkering design, giving it a very hollow feel in hand. The rubber sleeve is very well shaped, from Hogue, helping the little pistol fill out the shooting hand nicely. The downsides of the Hogue sleeve: 1) they add considerable width to the pistol, and on the grip, which is the most likely part of the pistol to print anyway. 2) They're not tacky, but they do grab fabrics a LOT more than the polymer grip frame, which can be a problem for some carry methods. The grip design of the LCP II is completely different, and the bosses along the back edge of the grip give much better purchase than the original LCP gripframe, and the saddle at the top fills out the web of the index finger and thumb very nicely. I expect we'll see a hogue wrap for the LCP II, but I don't feel as though it will be as pertinent for purchase as it was for the original LCP frame.

The Gen 1 & 2 LCP's were great pistols, the Gen 2 incrementally better than the Gen 1, but the LCP II is better still than the Gen 2. I never personally felt the Custom was an improvement over the Gen 2 - I bought it with high hopes, but I was seriously disappointed in the product. With the Gen 2 on the market at the same price, there was no longer any sense in buying a Gen 1. With the LCP II on the market at the same price, there's no longer any sense in buying a Gen 2 - including the Custom.
