Ok, so I have a long way to go on this rifle and I am still saving for my Nightforce scope I have picked out. So, while I was waiting I figured I could get some accessories along the way. As some of you may know this thing and the accessories are ridiculously expensive which is one reason I have not done much with this rifle. So, my options are a muzzlebrake, not really that important as I plan on getting a supressor eventually. Then there is things like an emergency front and rear sight, a a sling, swivel mounts, accessory rail, mirage strap, extra magazines, etc. The list goes on. I already have their bipod which I really like but I am at a loss as to what to get next. Getting a base and some good rings seems like a good idea but it will be awhile yet before I can get the scope. So, would you wait and apply the money to the scope, base, and rings or ^^^do you think I should get anything else first like the sling, extra mags, etc.?

It depends on what you plan to do with the rifle. If it's a benchrest gun only, then a sling is not needed. But since you are looking at emergency f/r sights, I guess it's not just for bench.
But I would avoid doo-dadding it up. It's an amazing piece of machinery, and quite heavy so you'll be adding even more carrying weight with all those items in your post.
And I don't know the weight of the NF scope, but I would be very careful to assess the weight of it and competitive scopes before I laid down my money.
So for now, another mag for sure, a sling/swivels to make it portable (unless you can use a backpack-style carrying bag which would be better for you and easier on the rifle). And that should be it for now (of course the optic as well). Then allocate the rest of your money on quality ammo and learn to shoot it well.
There's always time for curb-feelers and fuzzy dice later. But not until you've shot it for a while.

Yep, just get your optic. Too many people seek to "deck out" their guns without ever asking "Will this actually afford any extra utility to this weapon?"

Every modification should pass that test. For example, "emergency sights"... Does this refer to BUIS? Ask yourself, will this rifle be subjected to enough abuse to disable the primary optic? If so, will it be in a situation which dictates that i MUST use this gun in a diminished capacity, rather than switch guns or just go home and fix it? I see few situations which would call for "emergency sights" on a TRG. Therefore, i recommend pass.

Consider that train of thought for all possible accessories, and you'll avoid useless knicknacks wich really only add weight and bulk to an already heavy and bulky rifle.

Just my opine.

ETA: one accessory that's ALWAYS useful: MORE AMMO!! :D

If you want a sling, get an aftermarket one. Are you running the dovetail or picatinny? You can run a NEAR base and Seekins rings on a picatinny or Spuhr on the dovetail. Those are popular selections for TRG owners. Grab a couple extra mags if you can find them on sale. If you want, the KRG mag catch extension is a worthwhile accessory if you find difficulty activating the factory catch.

Don't put iron sights on it unless you're using it as a UIT competition rifle, which means no scope for you. If you want a brake and suppressor, consider an integrated brake/mount from Surefire, SAS, or Thunderbeast. These allow you to use the mount as a brake when the can is off. Thunderbeast and SAS come in the Sako M18x1 metric thread. I'm unsure about Surefire. The mirage band won't work without the factory brake but you can always rig up your own system. I would suggest a cover for the suppressor because it'll mirage worse than the barrel.

I say get an XLR chassis for the TRG. I must admit the only reason I bought one was because my factory stock had multiple cracks while refinishing.

If you have a TRG 42 in 338 LM...I have a mag I'd sell to you, since my chassis uses AI mags.

While on the topic of a chassis, I should mention Kinetic Research Group is a TRG accessory company. They also make a Whiskey-3 chassis system for various actions and their own folding stock add-on for the TRG at a fraction of the factory option (sub-$1000 vs $2700+). http://www.kineticresearchgroup.com/products.php

If you hate the idea of paying $175 per TRG mag, KRG makes an Accuracy International magazine conversion kit so you can run the much cheaper AI mags. This might be worth looking into before you stock up on factory TRG mags. You can turn around and sell off your factory mag to recoup some of the cost. The only real difference is the single stack AI mags stick out past the bottom. Some people like this while others prefer the flush Sako double stacks.

aubie515, what solvent or process did you apply to the composite sock parts to cause them to crack? I'd like to know what chemicals to keep away from mine!

Can you guys post pics of your sling set ups assuming you have any? I am trying to get an idea of where to mount this thing, what configuration I mean, and I do not have a sling yet. It seems that mine only came with one mounting point. I am going to have to figure out what to do with that as I do not think a regular quick disconnect will work.

Mine came with a sling mount under the handguard on the UIT rail, on top of the hand guard at the 9 o' clock position with an offset mount that's bolted to the chassis, a rear mount on the stock, and one behind the bolt at the 9 with an offset mount. I should mention I have the folding stock so your rear end will vary. Every one of my sling points appear to be HK hook loops except for the one by the bolt. A QD seems to snap in there fine.
