I am looking at a lightly used Marlin 1895 Cowboy, used for some light target shooting and taken on one hog hunt in Tennessee, externally I would rate it at 98-99% and internally at 95-98%, always shot Jacketed bullets, and cleaned.
This is a first year production of the Cowboy, and if I had to guess Marlin probably fired the guy who used this wood on this gun, WOW it is nice
That being said, if you wanted it and you had the $$$ what would YOU pay?

Well, I'd guess $200-300, but that may be a little low to what they're actually asking. I do know when that gun was new they were costing near $500 in shops in my area. But don't take that for gospel because it's just my opinion. I do know those are good shooters. They shoot even better when you mount a Williams FP/TK.

Nay. That's great wood. Lots of character. Looks awesome.
350-375 is fair.

You guys must be the same ones who talk about these "mystical" $150 S & W Model 10's and $175 Marlin 336's. That is a $600 gun new. A used one would probably run at least $450 (this gun does have an octagonal barrel, right??). If you get one for the $300-$350 these guys are quoting, you are getting one heck of a deal!!

I paid 460 for a used marlin 1894C cowboy in 357. It was perfect with an action job and safety plug, new firing pin, and new leaf sights.

I paid $450 for a like-new used one about six months back. That was the first used one I had seen in three states' worth of gun shows.

Used, around here is $450-$550 for that rifle. (got one just like it but not quite as pretty. :) )

If you decide to sell it for $350 shoot me a PM!

I paid $525 for a used one and don't regret it. Great rifles. Anything under $500 would be a steal. I'd buy another if I could find one for less than $500.

I paid $500 cash for mine (new), in 2001.

Unfortunately, it's never been fired.

TheShootist1894,
If you can get that beautiful rifle for less than $550. . . . GRAB it!

ok so. . . .

$595 is the price tag, and if I sell some stuff I got lying around at the gun show this weekend I might just buy it. . . .

used is used.

my buddy who work in a shop gave a hard up guy 150 $ for one... or tehy told him he could put on consign and wait.

around here about 4-500.. now if it was a guide gun with pistol grip. i'd be all over it.

That's nice looking wood. I think I'd pay between $450 and $500. $595 is kinda high I think. But it's close enough to my limit and the rifle is nice enough that I could be swayed to pay that much if my financial picture at the moment of purchase was "comfortable".

Shops in my area would probably give you mid $300s, and probably sticker it mid $400s. Bear in mind that used guns generally sell below sticker in my area if you kindly ask a shop manager for the best he can do on it. If the wood is as nice as it looks in the photos it might add a bit more. I think George Hill gave you a pretty fair estimate.
