HighVelocity, Colt quit releasing production and serial number information about 1978. I have heard that if you call them up they will give you the year made and nothing but. More information requires a $factory letter$.

georgeduz - I think you'll find that the year is 1939 (roughly in the 4th quarter) not 1940. The serial numbers listed are the first one for the given year. C1981XXX is before C1989000 (1940) and after C1896000 (1939).
