I would like to get a bolt action in either of these calibers for a plinking rifle at the range. What are some decent bolts in these calibers?

Is there anyway I could keep it under $350-$300? What are my options?

Savage? CZ?

It will cause the rifles internals to wear quicker and more carbon to build up near the chamber in the barrel, but if your not shooting every day i'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

No No it won't! If it won't wear out a semi or full auto firearm it sure as heck won't harm a bolt action

Hundreds of steel cased rounds later and no ill effects to report.

I didn't say it would HARM it I said it would cause it to wear quicker. Which it's a know fact it does wear actions quicker than brass. But with ammo prices the way they are buying a new extractor after 10,000 + rds sure beats paying twice as much a box.

Is that a savage at the bottom of that pic? I have the springfield model and boy can she shoot!

How much was your cz? I looked at the Remingtons at buds guns and they are over $500, I was hoping that I could get something cheaper. Any other suggestions?

I bought the rifle about 3yrs ago IIRC it was just over $500.

Ruger made a 77 in 7.62x39 a few years ago but canned it for some reason. It's not a bad rifle for a Ruger. See them pop up used on occassion.

Get the CZ pictured. You will NOT regret it. Well worth the money.

Oh, if you're just using it to plink around with, don't bother spending the $50 on the CZ scope rings. I did, and took them off after a day at the range. The stock sights on mine are dead-on accurate.

Wolf and CZ go hand in hand. It won't damage the action.

PS...I hate to mention this, especially after what crap I've been through, but WalMart can special order the CZ for less than $500. Or look around on TFL/THR and you might see one for sale.

I've got a CZ carbine myself, in 7.62x39. Great little rifle. You can modify the bolt to allow for lower scope mounting, and a nice little 4x goes well on this rifle. Just the thing for a handy brush rifle for under 250 yards. I paid $399 for mine at a local dealer. It had been sitting on the shelf for a long time.

I found a store that has remington adl 700s for around $315, I think they had some in .223 or .243. Opinions?

I guess I should have also explained the purpose of this gun, basically I want a non-.22 bolt action trainer rifle to plink with.
