well right now i have a old riot shot gun single shot. its fun but i want an upgrade. pump action is fine because you can save money compared to the autoloads. now brand doesn't matter. its not for hunting exactly more for clay pigeon and recreation. any ideas?

There are lots of good pumps to be had, IMO.

A used Wingmaster sounds like it would do fine for you. I got one for somewhere around $160, but that is a rarity. I have an express that I like quite a bit too - but it is an older one. People have reported problems with the newer ones.

If not clays, what do you mean by recreation? Like tactical stuff or what?

What is your budget?

I have a "youth model" Remington 870 pump 20 gauge for home protection. The gun is lighter, faster pointing than a full size model. If I needed to protect my family with that 20 gauge, there is not a doubt in my mind that it would not do the job. BTW, my wife loves the lower recoil and can handle that shotgun like a champ.

well i live in the desert in the middle of no where so if not clays just random stuff in the desert. you'll find washers and dryers so anything. i dont really have a budget but i would like it reletivley cheap. under 5 but if its really good over 5 is fine. and i don't want used. thanks though.

Is that really what you want to say? ( Double negative.)

Lots of good used pump guns around. Ithaca 37s, Rem. 870s, Mossberg 500s, Winchesters. Pick one.

I've got an old Remington 1100 that is bomb proof and good for whatever - birds, deer, clays, etc. It is the gun I am shooting in the picture below.

My eldest kid just bought a Remington 11-87, which is a newer model of the 1100. Very reasonably priced and, again, good for birds, deer, clays, whatever.

Good luck!

PcolaDawg - you're right on the money with the 1100. Quite possibly, my favorite all time shotgun. Great pic... :)

Thanks Slugo! I, too, am in love with that gun. After my Marlin .22, that is the first gun I ever bought/owned. Very reasonably priced and it could do everything. Hunt big game, small game, birds, target shoot, clays --- and in all weather conditions, and keep on ticking. It is amazingly accurate with slugs, too.

Just a great gun. I was very pleased when my son decided the first gun he was going to buy was the 11-87. He'll still be using it when HIS son is ready to buy. Which is very cool.

Here we are when he brought it down from college to shoot in the backyard. He's a college senior which is about the same year I bought mine, come to think of it.

With a budget of 5 theres lots of choices all depends on your tastes. The 1100 semi's that they mentioned above are great and go around here for about 300-350 off the used rack in near mint condition. Just about every pump gun can be had in that range if you don't mind used. I was just looking at Ithaca model 37's myself and in hunting configs they run 800 new. You won't go wrong with a Mossberg, Ithaca, Winchester or Remington that has been maintained and cleaned and as someone mentioned above if you shop used you could get a really nice Rem Wingmaster for well under your budget. With the interests you listed above I'd shop for a 12 gauge with a 26-28 inch tube on it
