My 2007 gun budget is pretty well committed to handguns, and with Boxer, Waxman, Feinstein, Kennedy, Schumer, et al now holding positions of stronger influence as a result of the last election, I don’t want to defer my planned handgun purchases. That said, I could free up some funds for a few C&R purchases if the situation warranted. Looking around the internet, I have seen some indications that supplies of some of the milsurp guns may be drying up. If that is the case, I’m thinking I should act now rather than waiting until 2008 to pick them up. I would appreciate forum opinions on the probable disappearance of some milsurps, particularly the following:

Persian Model 1898 Mauser – Empire and Classic have some M98/29s at $450-$660 in Excellent condition.

Swedish Mausers - Samco had some Good-to-Very Good bent-bolt M38s in their catalog for $330 and Empire has some Excellent and Near-Excellent M96s in the $325-$375 range.

Swiss Schmidt Rubins – Samco, Aim and J&G have some K31 Carbines in the $110-$160 range. The only M1911 Rifles I have seen are at Empire for $495.

If there are others that are desirable and appear to be approaching scarcity, I’d like to know about them as well.

Thanks in advance.

If you want a 98/29, I'd put it on the top of the list of things to buy- there weren't that many of them made. $450+ is a high price for them unless they are unissued and come with the test target and matching bayonet. I bought mine for about $250 about 4 years ago from samco in VG condition, the stock shows some wear to the finish around the wrist and forearm, but it was essentially a new rifle otherwise.

For swedes, you might be best off looking at local gunshows or even internet trader boards, you might find a better deal if you have patience. I bought my last two 96s about 5 or 6 years ago @$175 a piece and that seemed like a lot of money then, wish I would have bought 10 more:banghead:

You should grab a K-31 or 6 while they are still cheap. I can see those go the way of the swedish mausers in a relatively short time from now.

Decent fighter planes are in short supply
