What's minimum recommended equipment for CCW

My normal carry when I am out and about:

1. Gun (Colt 1991A1 or Ruger SP-101)
2. Reload
3. Cell phone
4. Leatherman Supertool
5. Wallet with CCW permit and drivers license
6. CRKT M16-12Z

bare minimum is a gun and a permit. cell phone is probably a good idea.

I'd also recommend a non-lethal alternative, like pepper spray, but that's only if you wanna be a boyscout.

I carry a fair amount of gear, but its all stuff I use on a weekly, if not daily basis.

Main gun - currently rotated between a xd-9 and xd-9 subcompact. Springfield 1911 9mm will be added as soon as my milt sparks holster arrives.

2 reloads in a cqb.com magazine holster

Seems like a lot of stuff, but the pocket knives, and keys are the only really visible items. Weighs in at 6 pounds or so. I wear good pants with a good belt, and every item on this list but the field dressing gets used a lot. I carry the field dressing because Im a army combat lifesaver and a eagle scout on top of all the other medical training ive had, and feel that adding a dressing and a bandana to my carry gear, gives me a lot of options for handling a serious wound. Bottom line, carry what you feel comfortable with, add and subtract as neccesary, and dont resort to name calling if you feel someone carrys more than you feel is neccesary.

I agree that all the items are very useful but where do you draw the line?

When you run out of pockets or it becomes uncomfortable. Really, except for the gun and ammo, all the stuff I mentioned above is really light and small.

The thing I find most interesting is how many folks here don't carry a cell phone. I just thought everyone did these days. Heck, most of the anti-self defense liberal types I know even carry one.

I'm a minimalist who doesn't really like carying extra stuff. For me, it's a gun, a holster, ID & permit, and a cellphone. I don't carry an extra mag. I think non-LEOs are VERY unlikely to be involved in a prolonged firefight. If I need more than 7 + 1, it is probably alrady too late.
