Just picked up a sweet '84 Ruger M77 International (w/Leupold M8-4X scope) in .308, and was wondering what the best (cheap/clean/functional/reasonably accurate) PRACTICE ammo might be. Anyone have any good experiences with the brass-cased non-corrosive NATO milsurp at about .50 cents a round online? Am I looking for trouble feeding a bolt-action steel-cased Russian like Wolf?

Any of the nato brass cased ammo (DAG, etc.) is good, IMO. I don't know about the steel stuff. I'd run steel in my Ishy Enfield but I dunno if I'd do it in a M77 or not. I doubt it would be dangerous... just might wear things a bit quicker. My $.02

You should have no problems with steel cased ammo and it's a bargain at around .25 a round from AIM for Tula. It's not gonna be the most accurate but it should be good enough.

For surplus you can get good German surplus from AIM for .40 a round.... and I think the Brit stuff is close to the same.

Check out cheaperthandirt.com If I remember, they had PMC 147gr ball for around $10 a box. That's .50 a round or so.

If this is a hunting rifle, any serious "practice" should be done with the load that you will be hunting with. If you want something "just to shoot" then any of the aforementioned ammo will work. Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

i have 2 brown South African battle packs; 140 rounds each.

i was going to post them for sale locally at $75 each.
if interested i can look into shipping costs. ups im guessing ~$20.

Ammo deals...

Nosler has a 2 for one special on 308WIN Match Grade ammo

14.65 a box and free shipping!

http://www.nosler.com/GunTalk/default.aspx

Promo code: free ammo

If I were to buy the brass only from MidwayUSA.com it would be $320.00 for 400 cases plus shipping (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=115991). For the same amount of Match Grade ammo in the mentioned special it is $293.00 with free shipping. If you reload it's kind of hard to pass that up.

Mil Surp 1982-83 vintage:

https://samcoglobal.com/Ammo-nato.html

35.9¢ per Round, 200 Rounds $71.80, 1000 ROUND CASE $349.00, Order 3 or more $339.00 per case

These have Berdan non-corrosive primers so they are NOT reloadable (to my knowledge).

Dag, early 90's German surplus Aim was selling it for $89 per 200 round battle pack. Its almost to nice to shoot, pretty ammo.

I ended up ordering 200 rounds of German and 75 rounds of British from Aim, 275 rounds for about $130, AND the Brit stuff comes in a bandolier :)
