I don't want to spend $300, but I would like to step up from the $8 Winchester ear muffs that I've been using.

I use Peltor SportTac muffs. They only have a decibel reduction rating of 20 though, so they're only marginal for use if you're standing to the side of someone else shooting a high powered rifle or other particularly loud firearm. They've been fine for me when behind the trigger though.

You might want to upgrade to the Tactical Pro model, which is 26dB reduction. More expensive and bulkier, though. I found that they can interfere with a good cheek weld.

For several years and I have been using Pro Ears Dimension 1 and have no complaints. They've been used indoors and out. The main reason I bought them was for deer hunting with a 45-70 pistol.

Can't tell ya the best-only personal experience.

Got the Peltor 7S and really have no complaints other than they do get in the way when shooting my AR's (I use earplugs for rifle work). Couldn't really find anything quite like 'em (for a decent price from Peltor) with cutouts near the bottom to give more stock clearance. Got 'em for $117 delivered at Amazon-NRR of 24, stereo sound, easy to change battery (1 screw cover). Some models folks gripe about tearing up ear cushions or ? in order to change the batteries.
Got a 5-star rating from 16 customers at Amazon iff'n that means anything. 'Course, if they're not rating 'em for shooting ratings may not mean much?

Going on memory here-can save quite a bit by going to the 6S ($73 delivered), but I think with the following caveats?
1. NRR of 19 vs 24
2. Not sure if true stereo?
3. Think this is one some folks griped 'bout battery changing being tricky?

They do look slimmer than the 7S-don't know if they'd still get in the way if shooting rifles?

Peltor makes them for Dillion. I have a pair that has gone for years and worked well however friends who sweat alot find the electronics fail them as they get wet.

It's pretty hard to beat Walker's products. Hearing protection in very important to me, as I have unilateral hearing loss (fancy talk for being deaf in my left ear) and I have always used the game ear. They have a pair of muffs that I imagine work great.

Depending on your priorities, Sordin or Pro-Ears. Sordin seems to have the edge in durability, PE in technology.
