What's the concensus on the px4 subcompact

I am seriously considering the PX-4, 9mm 13 round sub, but saw a couple bad raps on some forums. Any first hand info? My 30 is great and I am partial to 45's but it's nice to have a hi-cap 9mm in the lineup. Can always go with another Glock, but I just got rid of my 23 with the conversion,but a 19compact is always a good choice. I never liked the way the 26 felt, and that px4 is very cool looking plus it comes in 40 also. 11+1, isn't bad either. I like the saftey/decocker with the smart carry. Thanks,

^^^ No. There are plenty of substitutes and that answer is just getting old.

I have the full size and it's 100% awesome, but I can't speak 1st hand for the compact. I've handled it and I must say, it's quite bulky for a carry gun (but in a Smart Carry it may be ok). You don't get the rotating barrel like you would with the full size, which IMO tames the .40 better than any other poly .40 I've ever shot.

All in all, I'd bet it's a great gun, but too thick for my skinny self.

ETA: Another one to look at is the Walther PPS. It's one of my two carry guns. I have the 9mm version and I can't say a bad word about it. It comes in .40 too (which you seen to like, as do I), but only up to 7 rounds. If you don't like the G26, but want something similar, the PPS is a great option. Kahr also offers some good stuff of a similar variety.

I believe the sub dosen't have the rotating barrell which reduces the recoil, your does, so does it feel like it buffers some of the push back as they claim?, thanks

I have a PX4 F model, full-size, in 9mm. I really like it. Very comfortable, enjoyable to shoot and easy to maintain. The sub-compact is essentially the same gun, minus the rotating barrel. And I believe it can use the available 20-round magazines. I know the big PX4 can.

Yes, the rotating barrel does seem to soak up some recoil; the PX4 is one of the sweetest-shooting nines I have ever fired.

Well, the best way I can put it is that it reduces the "snappiness" of the .40 round. Whereas other .40's I've shot have noticeable muzzle rise and an upward snap as opposed to the "push back" of the 9mm or .45. With the PX4, a good bit of that energy that causes upward motion is transferred into the rotation of the barrel, making more similar to some of the lower pressure rounds such as the .45.

I like most of the .40's I've shot. I'm not too bothered by the snap of the .40 in other guns, but it's nice to have a .40 that dampens that. It make for easier follow up shots and less fatigue when shooting for long periods.

So to answer your question: It seems to convert some of the "snap" of the .40 into more of a "push" like you described. You just get a different type of recoil from the .40 due to it's high pressures, and the rotating barrel system makes it more similar to other lower pressure rounds.
