What's the consensus on SOG?

I've already done a search, but I'd like some more recent comments.

I am about to place an order of a Swiss K31, Mosin Nagant 91/30 and CZ-52 and various surplus ammunition using my C&R.
Aim was my first choice, but they sold out of their unissued CZ52s, so SOG was the next choice as a buddy of mine had a good dealing with them in the past.
So, is SOG the company to place my order with or have some here had nasty dealings with them that can't be explained by a simple mistake?

Thanks for the input, this order's going out tomorrow.

I have ordered from SOG numerous times and have not been upset yet.
They do a good job.

I got a Makarov and a Star BM from SOG about three weeks ago.

I had no problems with the service, and the shipping was overnight.

My general impression from the internet and the boards is that SOG gets a few more complaints than AIM on average, but overall, they're just fine.

They're definitely one of the top-tier mail order milsurp places, but just not in the top of that group. I've ordered a few things from them over the years and the transactions went just fine.

I don't recall reading about any "nasty" experiences. I've ordered from them twice. The second time, I ordered 5 battle packs of (200each) Boxer-primed Hirtenberger, and after breaking open a battle pack and firing 5 rounds I realized they were Berdans. I tried to get a refund, but they said they couldn't because the pack was opened. Five weeks (and countless calls) after they said they received my RMA, they refunded me for the 4 packs I returned on an RMA, but I haven't bought there since, because I don't trust them to know what they're selling.

Most, if not all, of the bad things I've read about SOG have concerned the Argentine FN-49s they were selling. Seems like there were a lot of problems with the magazines (each rifle only came with 1) and SOG didn't have any extras, so there were a lot of rifles that wouldn't feed correctly.

Other than that, I haven't really heard anything bad about them.

They tend to overoptimistally grade things from what I've seen. I bought a couple of M44's that were called G/VG that were Fair/Good at best (which was fine in this case as they were for a project). At the upper end of the range LNIB/Excellent this isn't as much of an issue, but down low it can be a crap shoot.

They aren't at the top of my list to order from but I have no problems with ordering from them again.

Do a search on any Enfield board about SOGs Jungle Carbines...

Everything I have seen foprm SOG is at least two grades worse than they say. I wont order from them.

I can't believe AIM sold out of the unissued CZ-52's already! I mailed my order on Wed. priority mail, I hope my two CZ's show up tomorrow!

Good to deal with. Pretty fast, fair-priced shipping. They overrate their guns a little bit (in my experience, YMMV), but other than that little caveat, I'd order from them again.

i have dealt with both AIm and SOG face to face no phone or internet orders. i had a little problem with SOG but that was due to me not being 21 and them not selling anything to anyone under 21:rolleyes: but once we got that all cleared up it was fine. The people at AIM are a much friendlier bunch. but the experience with SOG would not turn me off. Though if AIM and SOG had the same thing i would definatly pick AIM!

Thanks for the feedback. I just placed my order with them... I hope all turns out well.

My last dealing with them consisted of buying two M48's at what was an excellent price. No grading on them. They turned out to be M48A's, the price was increased by $7 apiece, and the bores were dark. Also, one sight hood was missing. They're into volume, so if you order from them and find issues with what you get, be tenacious. I didn't have the time to be...
