What's the differance between an H&K M1S90 and a Benelli M1S90?

It there any defferance between the two? Are they both made by Benelli and if so, does Benelli provide parts and sevices for the H&K's?

Thanks, Flip.

Originally HK distributed the Benellis. So if you have an older one it's marked HK. I think there are differences but I'm not sure what they are. I have an older one but I'm not familiar with the newer one. One of the Berettas ,no longer marketed, is also a Benellli and I know there are differences there.

Confirming what mete said, Heckler and Koch, Inc. was the importer for Benellis before Benelli U.S.A. Corp. was established. I have four of them (three HK/Benelli marked on the receiver, one that is Benelli-only), and Benelli manufactured them all.

There have been engineering changes to various parts over the years. But they are all Benelli's parts. Some differences I have observed in my collection:

  • the trigger safety button (The older one is circular, while the newer one is triangular-shaped.)
  • the bolt handle (The older one is cylindrical and spin around its axis, vs. newer one that is a curved arc facing forward and does not spin around its axis. Also, the newer one does not fit securely into older bolt.)
  • the bolt (The older one is missing an extra machined cut on the bottom, and allows you to manipulate the bolt to sneak an extra shell onto the shell lifter; the newer one has the extra cut, which somehow prevents you from doing this. I have swapped older bolts to new guns and newer bolts to older guns, the extra shell capability follows the bolt and the cut is the only difference.)
  • the magazine tube (The older ones were one-piece, fixed in length and capacity: my HK/Benelli M1 Field is short and holds three 2.75" shells, HK/Benelli M1 Defense is long and holds seven. Newer ones are two-piece: my M1 Tactical has a three-round base magazine onto which you can attach a two-round or four-round extension, or six-round in the case of the M1 Practical.)

I know there was a difference between the old-style rear ghost ring sight and the newer ones from LPA ITALY, but I don't have an older one here to describe it. The older ones did have a reputation for coming off the gun, though.

Also confirming what mete said about the Beretta, the 1201F (Field) or 1201FP (Police) are very, very similar to the M1 Super 90. So similar that some people who want a pistol-grip shoulder stock for their 1201 but don't like the looks or feel of the one Beretta had, put on Benelli's pistol-grip shoulder stock instead.
