I just purchased a used Benelli M1S90 w/ 28" barrel. I would like to possibly add a pistol grip stock, mag extension and 18.5" rifle sighted barrel.

Has anyone had any luck with the Speedfeed stocks? I like their feel on Remington 870's. Will these fit an M1 or will there be a sloppy fit and gaps (like when putting on an M2 stock)?

What about the Benelli factory pistol grip? Is there a part number specifically for the M1?

Who makes the best third-party mag extension? What would the benefit of having a Benelli factory extension be?

Thanks for all of the help, fellas.

My first one came out of the box pretty much as you see it with the exception of the tube extension, which is a factory accessory. I've never tried anything aftermarket on it. It came with the stocks you see, 18.5" barrel and ghost ring... Nice handling stock. They are available through through web page, I believe.

Pretty much what I want to do. I actually prefer rifle sights, however. That extension tube fits the barrel length perfect. How many rounds is the extension tube? +4?

Did you get the manual? If not you can download it here. Or you can phone Benelli USA and request one if there are any left. I think it has the part numbers.

Speedfeed makes two variants of the stock you want especially for the Super 90. Brownells has them. I don't have experience with Speedfeed on Benelli but Brownells has a no questions asked customer satisfaction guarantee. They should take it back if you want a refund.

I think that I am going to stick with the Benelli factory straight stock for a bit. My first mod will be a mag extension, either Nordic or Sure Cycle, followed by an 18.5" rifle sighted barrel. By spring, I will try and get the factory Benelli pistol grip stock.

Anyone have any experience with the above mentioned mag extensions?

I own two M1s90s, and shot them a good bit.
The pistol grip stock is not necessary, and actually worsens recoil a bit because it slams the hand hard rather than the shoulder. The only time the PG gains any sort of advantage over the straight is when you need to open a door with the shotgun at the ready.

the mag extension is nice, it is +4 but you should check up on 922R before doing so. when using the mag extension DO NOT use reduced recoil rounds because it will not cycle 100% reliably due to the extra weight.

I also prefer rifle sights on a defensive shotgun - and I have both.

As for parts - of course go factory. the speedfeed does the job but it will leave an ugly gap between the stock and the receiver. I spoke with speedfeed about it and they know it.

This one is a very late HK marked gun. Frankly, it isn't my most fun shotgun to shoot. It's loaded with OO and is kept handy. I figured I should have at least one tactical shotgun...kind of a "there, got that out of the way", thing.

I just picked up an HK marked M1 S90 Montefeltro. Now there's a gun that promises to be a whole lot of fun!

Gcrookston, isn't it interesting how different people respond to shotguns. We have the H&K Benelli M1S90 with the straight stock and rifle sights, and it is our most enjoyable shotgun bar none.

The inertia operated shotguns do have more recoil, of course, but with reduced recoil ammunition ours are a pleasure to shoot and reliable. Federal has always worked for us in both buck and slugs. Brenneke's home defense slugs work well too. Remington reduced recoil buck and slugs were unreliable, though, at least when we did our tests about 1,500-2,000 rounds ago.

I have an HK marked one also, with the factory mag extension and the ghost ring sights, 18.5" barrel. Whatever you do, DO NOT use a sidesaddle on these weapons for extra ammo. Yes, they sell them, no, I don't know of anyone who has had good results. Since the receiver is aluminum, if you torque down the mounting screws you run the risk of stripping the threads. And if you do get the screws tight enough so that there is no play in the mount, the gun will balk and jam because now the receiver is torqued! learned this the hard way at a couple of 3 gun shoots. Also, mine will not shoot my light 1 oz. trap loads. Anything factory runs fine.

Robert, Most of my gunning is done with a Beretta 682 or Winchester 24, so I don't expect the recoil of the Montefeltro to be much noticed. However, I have shot 6 slugs out of the one pictured at the rifle range fast enough to get the last one off before the first one hit a steel plate at 100yrds. That is fast and quickly less than enjoyable (but showing off seldom is). To me, this is a miserable little shotgun, really. I put it there with some of the riot shotguns I've shot. As a home defense gun however, I think it's not likely to do much better and that's the roll I bought it for.
