What's the latest consensus on the XD9 ? (may trade Glock 26 for one.)

Well, my plans to trade my G26 for a '53 Rusky SKS and $200 fell through, since the SKS didn't hold up to closer inspection ( who bothers to fake an SKS ?)
Anyway, I'm talking with a guy about trading my nearly new Gen.3 Glock 26 for his also nearly new Springfield XD9. We both have the original case and paperwork and 3 mags.
I've always liked these pistols, but have never fired one. Most of what I dig up is positive, but there are enough issues to merit further research.
The search feature here yielded surprisingly little on the XD, and You-Tube reviews are largely from admitted Glock-junkies like Nutnfancy and Hickock45, so I figured I'd better just start a thread.
As always, any facts, advice, personal experiences, etc. are much appreciated........

I've found the XD a bit rough on my hands at the range. I really wanted to like them, but didn't. I preferred the M&P, but bought Glocks to shoot GSSF. My wife has a M&P 9c, and it's a great gun.

Rent one before you buy, IMHO.

I like the XD series, more partial to XDm though. I think the Glock might be worth slightly more than the XD, but they are both fairly close.

If you like the XD better, trade. If not, don't.

Since you will be possibly trading your Glock for the XD, why don't you ask you friend to test fire the XD before commiting to the XD.

I really like the XD. It seems to have a natural ergonomic fit where, with me, when I point the gun, the sights naturally line up. I also like the trigger and the grip safety of the 1911. It is a little heavier though compared to the Glock. I have the XD40 which I always carry as my sidearm when hunting.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, guys. The trader here isn't a freind, but a lcoal guy I found on Armslist ( I'm digging that site!!) and arranging a shoot would a be kind of a headache. Besides, I'm fairly tolerant of variables with my toys, like weight, ergos, etc. as long as they function properly and reliably.
Hey teachu2, by "rough on your hands", did you mean the sandpapery grips, or recoil ?
Thanks again, guys......

Are you unhappy with the G26?

I haven't found a sub compact that shoots better than the 26 yet. 200 yard silhouettes are a good indicator that it's very shootable.

Grip angle of the XD's, higher bore axis and grip safety are the main turnoffs for me.

Not "unhappy" with the G26, just don't ever carry it since getting a little S&W 642. I figured if I can turn it into full-sized semi-auto with no headaches or cost, might be a good plan.

The texture on the backstrap. You could tenderize flank steak with it....

I tend to shoot my primary weapons 2-300 rounds per range visit. Fifty through the XD was painful.

I went with an XD .45 over a glock on fit. I have bigger hands the extra dovetail the XD has saved them form slide bite. And I like the little extra weight with them.

I got an XD9 Tactical when they first came out because I liked the grip safety. This year I've added an XDM 9mm 5.25" and 4.5" and like them all.

Im sorry...Ive never believed the higher bore axis boogyman.

XD's are great guns for the money .Very accurate and very reliable.Just my 2 cents.

I have an XDm and an XDsc both .40's. I know its not exactly what you are after, but as far as the grips being rough, my XDsc is not at all and by all rights it should tear you up more than an XD9. I love them, but then I don't like the way Glocks fit my hand. Field stripping to me is way easier than a Glock. I would jump on the deal.

I carry an XD9 SC and have an XD45 C for bedside. I like them both very much and I owned Glocks in the past. Had a Glock 27 for carry. Much prefer the XD, as it just works better "for me". YMMV!

I LOVE my XD9! 4" fullsize (Green Gun #2)

I bought a Uncle Mikes grip sleeve for a Glock and it has been on my gun since week 2. So I cant comment on the feel of the backstrap.

I have big hands, this gun fits perfectly in my hand. Someone commented on the beavertail, I like that too.

It points very naturally. I can point shoot with confidence. That is part of the reason I picked it over a Glock.

It carries really well in a Galco summer carry holster.

Breakdown is real simple, 4 parts. No tools required.

You can buy 33 round mags for it. Which is super nifty!

(quote) "Whomever ends up with the G26 in this deal wil come out ahead...way ahead."

Well, at least a little elaboration might be useful.

Never liked the feel of the G26 grip. Traded it in for a NIB Walther PPQ 40, and much happier with the grip & has a sweet trigger. Regards to my XDsc 40, like others have mentioned the ergo design & grip safety are an advantage, or at least my personal preference over the Gen 4 G26.

I don't miss G26 & my XDsc 40 is a keeper.

My employer, a very large PD, just removed XD pistols from the list of approved primary duty pistols. A certain part is subject to breakage. Our firearms training and legal folks wrangled with SAI for quite a while before making this policy change. We buy our own duty firearms, within guidelines, which is the usual procedure in this region. (The G22, G23, M&P40, P226, and P229 remain on the approved list.)

Please understand that I do not hate SAI or the XD, just passing along information. I am not a big Glock fan, either, though I own a G17; a reliable tool for the toolbox.

I cannot publicly state which PD, as I would be subject to disciplinary action. The information regarding this part failure is out there. Make your own decision.

Personally, I am considering acquiring a G26 in the future, as it makes sense with a G17 as a companion piece. I would not sell or trade a G26 if I had one.

Thanks Rexster, I wouldn't think you'd be in any trouble for merely telling which part is the weak link in question. I'm guessing it's that guide rod I referred to earlier. Any chance you could at least PM me ? Thanks....

The smith at my LGS thinks that the XD's have a weak part in the firing pin assembly. It is the block that the sear (?) disengaged from when you pull the trigger. Something about a faulty hardening process. He thinks that it could crack over time and then the gun would not be drop safe.
Thing is, neither I nor any of the other guys in the LGS have ever heard of it actually happening. And how many XD's have been sold? I guess time will tell.

Well guys, looks like it was a false alarm,LOL. I went and met up with the XD guy ( a doctor in his blue scrubs, it turns out), a nice enough guy, and he even had printed reciepts with our names already typed in.
His XD was exactly as advertised, nearly NIB, but somehow I just didn't really dig it. Even so, I was thinking, what the hell, I'll follow through anyway. But then he starts asking if I'm sure my G26 is a gen 3 and I said that I always assumed so, but I honestly couldn't swear to it. So he seems to be balking a little, and I said "why don't you Google it, see if you can find out", so he whips out his Blackberry-like unit and starts in, then I call my brother and ask him to start Googling,as well. Long story, short, we find conflicting info and can't be sure, and I can see it's an issue for him ( who knows why, what's the big difference in 2 vs. 3), so I suggested we just put things on hold till he can find out for sure.
He agrees and says he'll be out of town for a couple days, can I be reached, yadda yadda. I'm pretty sure he's wanting the Glock, and will be kicking himself for not grabbing it ( since I'm now sure it's a gen 3) but after some other stuff I've stumbled on, I think I'm going to keep the G26, and maybe try to trade it to someone with a G19.
Thanks again to all for chiming in............now on to the next project !:D

If you ever decide to carry one instead of the 642 the Glocks will probably conceal better, at least for me they do.
