IIRC, not too long ago, South Korea was wanting to sell off a surplus of Garands, M1 Carbines, M-14s, and other 1950s era US Military rifles. I don't think there was any particular reason / import regulation these rifles couldn't be sold in the US, but the Obama administration was trying to block their importation anyway.

Have there been any recent changes, and is there any chance we'll get to buy any of these rifles?

http://www.pmddtc.state.gov/regulations_laws/itar_official.html

“Section 120.1 General Authorities and eligibility.

Section 38 of the Arms Export Control Act authorizes the President to control the export and import of defense articles and defense services. “

Our “friends” in Congress have given the President total authority to block the import of any and all defense articles. Take a look at section 121 for the list of things that are designated as defense articles, Garands fall under the definitions.

Now given that Obama is as anti gun as they come, who do you think is preventing the import of Korean Garands?. Well the President of course!!:cuss:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Traffic_in_Arms_Regulations

“The Department of State interprets and enforces ITAR.”

Without a doubt, under the direction of the President, the State Department is refusing to issue import licenses.

The rifles in question were given to South Korea by the US and as such their government must have permission to sell them.

President Obama has given H. R. Clinton authority to decide on the issue and her vote is no.

So you see, he's not anti-gun, he's just an organizer delegating controversial decisions to others. So much for testing the "steel in his veins".

On another note, our pres. agreed to a $10 billion loan to Mexico's state run oil company for exploration in: wait for it...the Gulf of Mexico! Fast forward to this week and he's demanding that US companies spend several hundred billion to inspect, kill and cap all abandoned wells.

Best buy what you can while you can.

They belong to the US government..

The CMP had actually come up with a deal to pay a "shipping and handling" fee of 40 dollars per gun, but that was shot down by the board as they refuse to buy back guns they already own...

Not going to happen and even if they did, you wouldn't want them. Those are junk guns that have been abused beyond collector or usable value.

We have a winner!

The rifles were not given to Korea they were "loaned". They are trying to sell us back...that which we already own. That is what is being said NO to.

So if the U.S. just takes them back, the U.S. government can sell us citizens the milsurps, right?

It happens every day with pretty much any rifle you might be able to buy from CMP these days -- the South Korean weapons seem to have hit a sticking point that Greek, Danish, South American and Italian lend-lease stuff has not.

I would like to see where some of this info is coming from.:

1-Rifles were loaned to Korea

2-The CMP had actually come up with a deal to pay a "shipping and handling" fee of 40 dollars per gun, but that was shot down by the board as they refuse to buy back guns they already own...

Whats the source?????

Lets see... I live all of about 3 miles from the CMP store and have had more than one conversation about just this topic with base employees as well as someone much more important. If you do not believe it, that is your business... as to who specifically i have spoken to, well that will be kept confidential as the last thing I wish to do is get someone in trouble for what they spoke to friends and myself about candidly.

AND... the rifles WERE LOANED. Once again, believe that or dont.

We gave guns for free to the Mujaheddin, a radical Islamic organization, to fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan. It's hardly a stretch to imagine we'd willingly throw as many guns as we can down the throat of a republican government to fight a Communist country back in the day.

PT,

That'll do it for me. Either way, we ain't a gonna get no rifles. They know their hero started the CMP, don't they? Or maybe that was Al Gore too.

If it came from CMP it came from guys just talking, lot of rumors floating around. Never came from a authority
