What's the word on the NEWEST Charter Arms?

I've read up on the history of CA/Charco/Charter 2000 and I can't help but wonder about this latest iteration of Charter Arms.

I'm very interested in the compact .44 Pug they offer, but naturally I don't want a POS that'll self destruct in 200 rouds.

What's your experience with the new stuff?

OK, What was their reasoning for the "Don't buy" concerning the .38spl and how does that relate to the new Bulldog Pug .44spl ?

There's a whole bunch out on the intraweb about how much Charter sucks.

I can only relate my experience. I bought the Bulldog Pug in November. Took it out to the range, and I could only load 4 rounds in the cylinder. There was a burr on the extractor that would not allow the fifth round to seat properly. I took it home and knocked the burr off with a file; problem solved.

This was my first new revolver purchase. I shoot it better than most of my other guns. I like the look and the feel; to me, nothing about it feels cheap.

Maybe I've got the only good one they've ever made recently...

Guns Tests sometimes arrives at the same conclusion I have on guns I have owned they have tested but they are currently on my "don't buy" list. They test one or in extreme cases two examples of a gun and make all their judgment on that. For you Makarov people they say not to buy one, I think the Bulgarian commercial.

FWIW most of my CA experiences have been negative/marginal though. I have no experience with Charter 2000 products though.

Stay away from them.
I bought one not 2 years ago (if you count that as NEW), and it kept breaking. If you want more details i'll give them, but take our advice, save your money for a Taurus, or a S&W. The differences in quality and fit and finish are amazing...I suggest you save for a S&W, you won't be sorry.

the old ones are good guns if it says charco or charter 2000 or whatever (any newer one) pass. We know the guy that bought the rights to them...we can get a substantial discount from them and still don't sell them. Don't sell bryo/jennings/loricin/hipoints either (new or used) or the several new brands they keep re-emerging in.

Save your pennies and buy something decent...as a bud of mine used to say when I was wanting to cheap out on gear "hey that's OK...it's only YOUR life"

Save yourself a lot of problems and get a Ruger or S&W, as both make very nice big bore snubs that will shoot well and last a very long time.
