What's Up with Repeal of DC Gun Ban?

Does anyone know the status of this? The District of Columbia has the most draconian anti-gun legislation in the country. If I'm driving in nortern Virginia and inadvertently wander into the District I can go to prison for as a much as an empty shell casing in my car. I heard a few days ago about an attempt to repeal the gun ban, and figured it was part of this SB 1805 fight, but that's apparently not the case. Is the Senate or the House going to introduce a separate bill? Anyone know the chances that it would pass?

It was supposed to be an amendment on S.1805, but Senator Craig mentioned after the AWB and gunshow bits were attached that they would not be hauling it out.

My guess is that he knew he was going to have to kill the bill right there, and wanted to keep the DC thing out of it.
