What's up with the CZ52s?

I haven't bought anything on my C&R for over a month, and I now fancy a CZ52. They seem to be a pretty sturdy weapon and affordable to boot. They're widely available on gunbroker and auctionarms, which brings me to my question.

Why the wide variation on prices? They all come with the same kit: one gun, two mags, a holster and a cleaning rod. Yet the asking prices range from $109 to $250 for the same deal! OK, the one for $250 had a spare 9mm barrel, but the others were all identical. Is there something different between the lowball and the pricier ones? Or is it just greed...

Anybody with experience they'd care to share? :confused:

I think the price variation is due to the fact that some of these CZ's are arsenal refinished, some are brand new unissued, and some are just plain used. You can usually tell the refinished ones by the dark blue or black color. The new unissued have a gray phosphate coating on them. These also usually come coated with cosmolene. I have two of them, and both shoot very well. The difference between the two is, one is refinished,.. and one is new. The new one is more desireable because it is more aesthetically appealing and the simple fact that it's new. The refinished one isn't as appealing because some of the original parts are left on the weapon when it's refinished. Also the numbers may not match on a refinished piece due to the changing of worn parts. All in all, as I stated earlier, both weapons function equally.

In a moment of weakness while ostensibly buying some MFS 9x18 from AIM, I wound up with one hand on one of the unissued CZ52s and the other reaching for my wallet. They're absolute beauties, and my lousy photos won't really do 'em justice. The mags may or may not be unissued (I seem to have one phosphate grey mag w/ a bit of cosmo, and one black mag w/ mine), but the holster (handy for swaggering around the range, I suppose!) and other accessories (lanyard, cleaning rod) seem to be. It's also not a Century import, so the mark is a rather discrete matrix one on the underside of the frame, in front of the trigger guard. Almost too pretty to shoot, but highly recommended. :)

I'd post a picture, but seem to be having issues with attachments... :p
 
I haven't bought a firearms from AIM, but I know many people who have, and they all have been satisfied. A close friend bought a MN 91/30 that was pristine not too long ago. When I purchased some S&B .45ACP ammo from AIM, the service was friendly, the shipping was reasonable, and the price couldn't be beat.
 
I've seen some unscrupulous people locally trying to sell the black ones as NEW and not mentioning rearsenalled.

They are asking $250 for those and any unsuspecting person might actually believe that is how the gun is when it's new and fork out the moola.

I like the "52" so much so that I bought a 9mm barrel for mine. It works great and is a lot cheaper to practice with.
 
Well, some folks are also just plain silly... The gun show I was at this weekend had CZ52s everywhere... Among the issued, used, non-refinished CZ52s, I saw prices vary from $99 to about $170. Most were $110 to $130.

By the way, they are awful fun to shoot at night. ;)
 
Just because they have the gray phosphate/parkerizing/whatever doesn't mean that they are unissued. In fact most aren't and are in very good to excellent condition. I'm going to order a couple of unissued ones from AIM now that they have them. They also have the very good to excellent ones for about $10 cheaper.
