What's wrong with me, I don't have any 38s or 357s anymore

Craig: I've said it before, I'll say it again, you've got some outstanding pistolas, senor. And the stocks are truly outstanding. Thx for posting and rekindling my jealousy. Rod

and I am lusting for a nice little 15-2.........gotta be good......gotta be.......
Geez....me too.....

The last one I carried is on my right hip in the photo below....An Loc, lll Corps, RVN, January 1970. USAF issue,, I turned it in for an Army Remington-Rand 1911a1....carried that for a cpl months, then was given a Browning Hi Power which never left my side for the remainder of my tour.

But, as a civilian, albeit a very old one, I hanker for another of those wonderfully built, .38 Specials....Rod

My last .38 was a S&W Model 10, from 1962. Just a very nice little pistol, and one of the most aesthetic revolvers ever made.

I do, sort of, regret letting that one go. It was a jewel I picked up for cheap, and let it go for nearly as much... but it is what it is.

I sold my last 38 special, a Smith 642, yesterday.
Over the years I have had a lot of 38s or 357s. The first handgun I ever bought was a Blackhawk that I got in Germany when I was in the service in 1977. Since
then I have owned several Smiths, Colts, and Rugers. I carried most of them as duty (and off duty) guns at one time or another. The only rifle in 357 I had I gave to my son.
I have handguns in 22lr, 9mm, 10mm, 41 mag, 44 mag and special, and 45 Colt. I just can't see what a 357 brings to the table that all these others don't.
My EDC is a 9mm. It seems when I go hunting I choose to tote my 10mm in a chest rig. Those big mouth 40+ caliber cartridges I just have a lot of fondness for. I could even divest of the 44 magnums but I now have a Marlin 1894 so I'll keep a few to compliment that.
Maybe I am missing or overlooking something in my reasoning. I am always on the lookout for something new to stuff in my safe. You're all a bunch of enablers so maybe you can convince me that I really should add a Smith 686 (that's probably what I would choose) to the stable.
SEEK HELP Immediately!:what:

Saw a couple just today at the LGS and had to stop myself. The nickel model 10-7 without a scratch was especially nice looking...

They had a 10-2 also, but it had a LOT more warts and moles.
Both 4" pencil barrels.

38/357s are my favorite guns after a 1911 in 45 ACP. I just like shooting and reloading them. I used to load a lot of different bullet weights and powders, but now I'm down to a mild charge for a 158 gr FN or 148 gr wadcutter for the 38 and pretty stout charge for a 158 gr JHP for the357. It really simplifies things. I currently have a S&W Model 14, 19, 66, 581 and 586 along with a Pietta Pistelro single action. I'm really lusting after a new blue Colt Python.

I forgot one of my favorite .38's! Most SAA replicas are .357's but USFA did .38's. This Rodeo II is a great cheap blaster that's "bigger than a .22". When USFA went "TU" and liquidated their parts, I bought a 9mm cylinder from Gary Grainger, among other things. Works great in the .38.

For years I read all the hub-bub about K frames.. the best, can’t live without one, nothing better. Etc etc. I had a nickel 10 and a 64 but never shot ether. Righted the wrongs with this 67-6. One of the best guns I’ve ever had. Perfect balance, weight, size. If you only had ONE. It would be REAL hard choice between this and my match champion. Real hard!!!

Rio and Shoe: For 9 months of my 1970 tour, my buck sergeant crew chief/bunker buddy/& flak suppressor/protector while I was on short final to our dirt strip, he proudly saluted & called me Cap'n 'Merica as I departed for a day's work. Raised in NC, his accent was indecipherable to my Lake Erie shoreline ear, for the first 3 weeks in-country.

He shimmed my rocket tubes for no-sight shots from 1500' agl., using steel Schlitz beer cans for the adjustments. Equally good with a pistol, or our USAF issued CAR-15's, he often flew my back seat, calling out ground fire enemy positions that I'd overlooked on a rocket pass. I trusted his mechanic skills and judgement every time I strapped in. His flying time was strictly voluntary and he did it often.

Sitting on a couple of flak vests, we often spent 15 minutes over some targets...an eternity at 1500' plugging along at 100 kts, especially if you're not flying the machine. A brave man indeed, his like will not be replicated again. I'm old now, and have had a good run of it and he's long gone....though never forgotten....Adios Compadre....Rod

I recall a couple of decades ago having to justify why I no longer had or shot .45 ACP pistols “ ‘cause every MAN must have a .45!” That used to kind of tick me off and the more I heard it the more obstinate I got in this regard.
I didn’t dislike the .45 ACP. I just didn’t want them any longer.

I have never been much on justifying any of my choices, whatever it happens to be. The older and crankier I become the less I am inclined to play that game as in "go away and leave me alone". What calibers I enjoy shooting is my business only and I will show you the same courtesy. I will discuss the merits and shortcomings of different calibers though as long as it's doesn't go farther than that. It is the same deal with the guns that fire them. 2LR to big boomers I see as a personal choice. No justifying needed and I won't play the game

In a nutshell I look at it as you shoot what you like and I will shoot what I like. The main thing is that each person in the conversation enjoys shooting no matter the caliber, firearm, or type of shooting as long as it is safe.

Teach every young person you can to shoot and enjoy it if possible. There are many that want the sport to go away and are actively trying to make it happen. Do all you can to thwart them.

I agree. I think my attitude at the time was “I’ll do what I like. You all don’t have to approve.”
I recall guys being peer-pressured into doing or buying things they weren’t sure about. My advice to was and is “Do what you want, unless of course they are going to buy the gun for you.” 😁
They usually end up doing what they want.

I mean.....you can have 5 revolvers that specialize in a few things or 1 that does everything pretty well. 😁

I've gone the other way and sold off everything except .22 and .38/357.
Going that direction myself. I have one 45 ACP left and it might find another home real soon. I have it in my mind that a revolver is 38/357 and a 45 is pistol. Or at least that's the economical way to look at it.
