whats wrong with my 45auto loads?

One simple and cheap test for the chrony, a test that you can do every time you use it, is to shoot some 22LRs throught it as a test, before firing other calibers. Velocities of most brands is well known---with standard high velocity right around 1250.
i shot .22 lr,s through it avg velo was 1150 fps.this chrony has shown good with every round i have put through it but the.45 auto,s.

i know everyone is leaning towards chrony problems, but why is it showing perfect with every other gun i have tried, only the .45 loads are doing this.

It could be that your rounds are throwing debris that is tripping up the chrono and skewing your results being that its a large caliber and you are using more powder. Move the chrono to back some. It doesn't hurt to move the chrono back another 5' to make sure this isn't happening. I've had cast bullet rounds that produce a lot of smoke from the lube give odd readings with the chrono set too close.

Also standardize with a factory round of known peoperties, I use a .22 lr out of a handgun or rifle to see if the results are as expected.

Make sure you haven't accidentally hit the switch that changes the units from FPS to MPS.

checked factory ammo with it and they show right 800-900 fps.my 40 and 10mm loads also show right, only the .45 loads show low.
Hmmmmm ... kneedown4GOD, well well, the plot thickens. :D

the loads do feel a little weaker than factory, but the gun cycles well
The heavy 230 gr bullet will provide enough "Oooommph" to cycle the slide of S&W 1911 even at below starting loads.

Do you have any other powder you can test load with? If the chrony is working properly, next I would suspect the powder as you claim the recoil was "a little weaker" than factory and your load is near max at 7.8 gr of HS-6 (Max load data is 8.0 gr).

If you get proper velocity with the chrony using a different powder, then it probably is your powder. Is it new/old? Any possibility of contamination or moisture damage?

Don't worry, I don't think THR gets "stumped" too often.:D

fixed,dont know why!

first off,i dont know if i am posting this right but anyway,i made all of my loads again guys, only this time with cci primers.guess what, they all are right up there where they are supposed to be!i checked and double checked the chrony, used a .22 lr showed perfect.so the primers fixed them i guess.my only question now is what was wrong?did i get a bad batch of primers?i may have touched a few of the primers with my fingers, but i shot them 1 day after loading, not enough time for oil contamination i would think.anybody got any ideas let me know!thanks guys,GOD bless!

i had the same results with three different brand new powders.update though!i made 4 different loads with three powders last night with cci primers and chronied them today, all of them are right at book specs now or a little over.it had to be the primers, but what, bad batch of primers or just not compatible?you can actually feel a difference with the cci primers!thanks 4 all your help!GOD bless!
