I finally shot a pistol grip shotgun. Man thats fun!!! I cant see why some of yall dont like it , I mean just for plain ol havin fun with. Now Im thinking about getting a 870 PG shotgun. BTW the shotgun is a 12 gauge H&R Topper.

They can be fun, but most of the folks here tend more towards defensive use. :)

No matter how good you are with a PG only SG, you'll be better with a stocked SG. And better faster too!

Me? Hell, I'm small, weak, and easily intimidated.

"Mr. Shirley, why did you shoot your attacker 29 times?"

"Your honor, I was only carrying one reload."

:D

John - ROFL :D

Just tell his Honor that when doing John Woo mid air summersaults the recoil of 29 rds fired allows you stay up a bit longer, follow through the "sault" better and softens your landing.

I've been on many juries, been foreman many times...hey let me talk to the other 11 folks...we'll be out in a sec with a not guilty verdict...:p

" If it wasn't true that wouldn't put in the movies" :D

I'm decent with a standard-stocked shotty, but if using a pistol-grip version...well, let's just say that the target stands a greater chance of getting hit if I THROW the pistol grip shotty at it.:neener:

Pardon my ignorance, but I've never fired a shotgun - period. Tons of rifles and numerous handguns, sure, but no shotties. What's recoil like with the pistol grip? I assume you're holding it to one side, right?

one45auto,

Well recoil is what I expected, It kicked pretty hard but not so bad that you couldnt have fun with it. People have many different feelings about recoil and thats just my opinion.:) And oh yeah I hold it to my right side cuz Im right handed.

Thanks, Skunk, I sould figured that out myself. Either is a bit far to travel for me. Darn....

What loads were you shooting.

The reason I ask is I had Mossberg PG Persuader and high brass 00 buck shot was quite painful. Not alot of fun at all. I also tried 3" 00 and that was pretty miserable.

Have a Benelli M1 Super 90 that came with a pistol grip....it's OK for deer hunting when you are sitting...just point and shoot, but terrible for bird hunting. The angle of the pistol grip is not easy to grip and shoulder quickly, actually awkward when walking and flushing upland game birds...conventional stock feels much better.

Yeah I live in NORTH CAROLINA NOT N. California:p I was just using some Remington birdshot. Buckshot would kick harder.......much harder but still not as so it would hurt, (too bad :D )

9, the reason I asked is....

Since this BB started and before on The Firing Line I've had a standing challenge to the PG only folks. They can pick the COF and the ammo. I'll use a more or less standard 870 while they can use ANY shotgun with ANY accessory on it as long as it has only a PG for a grip.

In about 5 years, no one has elected to pick up the gauntlet. It's a sucker bet.

PG only shotguns have very limited use. Maybe you can shoot one without pain, but any decent shotgunner can do far better with a standard shotgun.

I would agree, but the original poster said:

The poster didn't say they were going to take it to Gunsite or anything. Would it be okay for me to go onto the revolver forum and challenge a CAS guy to a COF? Their SAA vs. my 1911 perhaps? Sometimes having fun with firearms is just that, fun. ;)

Daniel, how abouts when I visit you in Indiana, I bring my 5-string, you get out that weenie 6-string battleship that has more wires and knobs than it has strings and get some Foggy Mountain Breakdown on?
