I don't have black rifle disease. Loud, but effective.

No "black rifles" here. Ruger Mini-14 Series 581 in 5.56x45mm NATO/.223 Remington. Revolvers rule! Smith & Wesson Model 681 .357 Magnum.

Are you talking about a "Bug out" kit?

Here's mine...

Good rimfire rifle, Super Blackhawk, Bearcat, as much ammo as you can carry.
Compact cleaning kit, multi-tool, flashlight, good knife, machete, small binoculars, and a way to start a fire. A roll of duct tape and parachute cord would be handy also. All this will fit in a small backpack or range bag, and on your belt. You'll still need a regular backpack for living essentials...Going mobile takes some preparation, I've been ready for years.

SHTF seems to be a no go topic but this is directly firearm related so maybe it wont get closed.

Modified Sub2000(hipoint metal sight,foregrip,230lumen light,33rd glock magazines). I have worked up a 1600fps 124gr load for this gun using a slow powder.

S&W M&P9c

I am urban and carrying a rifle around here would draw tons of attention so I must have a compact rifle and the sub 2000 fits in a laptop bag.

For ""Situations that Happen to require the Tactical use of Firearms": I have a Remington 700 Scout rifle in .30-06, and a Glock 20 that are more versatile than any of the other fireams that I own, so they would be my choices.

does it have to be something i own? then my ak-74 and my sig 226.

can it be anything? an arsenal ak-74 (i just like 'em better than the 47's, and i own a 47) and a full size glock (chambering doesn't matter. whatever i happen to own the most ammo in).

edit: wait. hold on. zombie apocalypse shtf? then what i posted above. economic collapse shtf? i'll trade the AK for my savage 22 bolt action. the pistol will be good for 2 legged self defense, the rifle for getting me food.

My understanding of the concept is things happen when you least expect them. I usually have a Smith 29 or Ruger 45 SA, and a Winchester 94 and/or a scoped bolt gun around handy. Guess that answers the question.

Don't know how many actually carry their rifles around with them regularly. I've found most self loaders get pretty heavy and awkward to carry before long.

Don't have them in a picture together because the S&W 586 just got back from Springfield, but mine is also .357 in a S&W L-frame and Marlin lever-action rifle.

The Marlin 1894c is from 1980:

The S&W 586 is from 1985:

The question was asked how to transport a self loader. Here is my vz-58, finally visible with both the Neit extended bolt release and extended ambi mag release, with CZ SP-01 Phantom posing in the covert rifle bag I have used before. Yes, I have carried this rifle in this bag into various places, and 99% of people seem to assume it is a soft sided portfolio case. :)

Spare mags for the rifle are in a compartment in outside pocket of the case.
