Back when I had a Glock, I used to just do a field strip to clean the barrel, top parts of the frame and the inside of the slide, etc. Now that I shoot 1911s, I've stepped up my standard cleaning method over time to include the removal of every part possible from the frame and slide, individually clean with Hoppes, wipe clean and oil for reassembly.

So how far do you go to keep your autoloaders in shape?

Sounds good to me....I've done two detail strips over the decades and was surprised how clean the innards were...."If it ain't broke, don't mess with it".
Your point with Hoppes is almost standard, from there the brand of oil & grease becomes hotly contested with everyone favorites...:)
Good shooting...

I just clean what I can doing a normal field strip with the slide off. If I can reach it with a patch, Q-tip, pipe cleaner or rag, I clean it. Every so often I'll remove the grips to get at those areas and dismantle the mags to clean them out. A clean mag is a happy mag.
