Eaglegrips.com ....

I saw some slick 1911/1911a1 grips on www.Eaglegrips.com . I like the blue & red mixed grips. It's more for a collector or "safe queen" type 1911 pistol than a carry gun but they are cool.
Like a Jerry Garcia tie. :D
The new G10 type alloy grips are practical & good looking too. Hogue Grips markets a few. They are well known for rubber, wood & polymer designs. Hogue was started by a retired LAPD officer & armorer: Guy Hogue.

Many 1911 owners & working cops like stag grips over the smoother ivory/pearl types or wood. Retired Texas Ranger & author; J Jackson, One Ranger, wrote he liked the stag style grips because they looked sharp & could be held in bad weather or while in the saddle. Ranger Jackson used a Colt Commander 1911a1 .45acp most of his law enforcement career.
My security instructor in 2008 packed a S-A 1911a1 pistol with stag grips too.

If you want a red dot laser aimer, you could opt for the Crimson Trace styles: www.Crimsontrace.com . The firm has sold polymer & wood type 1911 grips for many years.

I have three favorites for 1911s. My absolute favorite is only for 1911s with front grip strap checkering the C&S thick cut grips on my Robar NP3+ Kimber:

The second style is for a 1911 without front grip strap checkering like these Hogue checkered finger groove grips:

Finally, in third place is the pearce finger groove insert that is placed under standard 1911 grips to add finger grooves:

My carry 1911 .45 has smooth cocobolo, which is my overall favorite. If I needed something grippier I would apply a clear non-slip finish to the smooth scales, but so far it hasn't been a problem even with wet/sweaty hands.

My double-stack 1911 (.22 TCM/9mm) has Hogue wrap-around finger groove rubber that makes for a surprisingly comfortable and controllable gun but reaching the mag release with my right thumb requires breaking my grip so it is not a SD configuration with my hands.

I like my pachmayr grips

I use to have Pachmayr grips on most of my M1911 pistols but over the years I have either put their original walnut checkered stocks back on or replaced them with walnut double diamond designs. I also like the look of Kim Ahrends skip checkered stocks.

I have a couple of parkerized-like 1991's and I have WWII checkered plastic on them. Suits me and the guns.

I recently got a pair of the VZ Recon grips in black/grey that I am really liking. They were a bit sharp at first but became perfect after just handling and draw practice. I have not shot with them yet, but they should be much better than the smooth wood that came on the pistol.

They ain't the prettiest grips, but I really like the way Hogue rubber grips with palm swells fit my hand. Thin up top around the thumb and trigger finger, with a perfectly proportioned bulge to fit the hollow of my palm. These are the separate grip panel style, not the one-piece wrap-around with finger grooves.

For me, it would be my Hakan Pek grips. I no longer own them (or the gun) but he's making me a new set. uploadfromtaptalk1398351962011.jpg

Stock grips seem nice to me.

If I were looking for a new set, I'd check out the new Magpul grips. Nice looking from a utilitarian point of view, extremely functional, and...cheap! Less than $20 on Amazon for basic black. A bit more for colors.

I like VZ's and have several sets on my guns. But for my last pair I went with G10 from Larry Davidson and his grips are amazing. He'll pretty much make anything you want, and he hollowed out the grips to make them lighter. www.davidsonknives.com

You have to email Larry and tell him what you want and he'll give you a delivered price.

My 1911 was wearing standard wood grips and they looked nice, but unfortunately, ugly as they are, I found out that I shoot a LOT better with Hogue rubber wrap around grips with the finger grooves, so that's now what it wears. I can shoot that gun like none other and I wouldn't trade those grips out, but man they are an eyesore on a nice looking 1911!
