The most kills, Browning BAR .243. Note: most does not necessarily constitute many. I think I've killed 6 with it. This one this morning:

Favorite to carry in the woods, Rossi '92 in .44-40. It was my first Cowboy Action rifle and is just so perfect for totin' around in the woods. Admittedly, it is a close range only rifle, I would not take a shot over 50 yards with it. I haven't killed anything with it yet.
WHY do you think? Don't you know? If it was me I would know.

What is that gun??

What caliber??

What bullet is loaded in the cartridges pictured??

The gun was an FR-8 which is a Spanish '98 Mauser.

Caliber is .308 Winchester.

The bullets loaded in the cartridges pictured are a home-cast 172 gr. hollowpoint (Lyman mould #311291) They're loaded over 22.0 grs. of AL2400 and run a little over 1850 fps. When I'm hunting where I know my shots will be under 100 yds., I use this load. My oldest daughter killed her first three deer with this rig and load. I have no idea how many I've killed including a nice, heavy 9-point on my property. Never lost a single deer with this "underpowered" load.

I've taken a bunch of deer with my Rem 700 270, and like it a lot. Shot a bull elk with it too.

Bought a Ruger 77 in 260 for my boys to hunt deer with. Boy is it sweet--low recoil, great ballistics (shooting a 120 grain at just about 3000), dumps the deer DRT, a very nice balanced package. That rifle has taken 7 deer now. Here's my youngest 3 years ago. 2 years ago he shot a muley at 368 yards, one shot planted him.

my favorite deer rifle is a 1960's Remington 742 auto carbine,in .308 Winchester.I hunt in heavy woods.the rifle is short fast and with 165 grain RN bullets,it knocks them right over.I've taken 50 to 60 deer over the years with it. biker

I've harvested the most deer (and my biggest) with a Winchester Model 70 Featherlite in 30/06. I've also successfully used a Savage 170 in 30/30, a Savage 110 in 35 Whelen and this year took two with the Amish machine gun, a Remington 760 carbine in .308. All were one shot kills at 75 yards or less hunting open hardwoods.

My favorite is my old Marlin in .30-30. It's my meat gun. It fits me like a glove and carries very well. I hardly hunt with it anymore, but I should. I would like to kill a nice buck with my .351 before I leave this world. I had a shot at a really nice buck about 15 years ago with my .351, but I shot over him.

My Favorite is my 30-06 Weatherby Vanguard , I can shoot from 125 grain to 200 Grain Bullets and take just about any animal on earth and I have, from Moose to Cous deers and African antelopes , bought in 1985 and will never leave it at home, Although I have taken a few WT deer this year with my 1978 Marlin 336C 30-30 that shoots like a dream , I use that in thick woods .

71' Winchester model 70 Deluxe 30-06. I don't know how many deer I have killed with this gun but it's almost always one shot one kill. This was my first center fire rifle and it will always be with me because my brother bought it for me when I finished hunter safety course.

I don't believe so - I think all featherweight's have the Schnabel fore-end (it kind of bulges at the front).

Coincidentally, my favorite deer gun is my M70 Featherweight in 30-06!

Almost all the hunting around here is close range. And the coastal blacktails are small in size! So the SKS with a block in mag. Or a 5rd.magazine is fine. I use 125gr. S.P.s & have never had them get more than 25 yards from where the shot hit them. Never needed a second shot. I prefer the magazine block as I can take it out if I need to.I carry a pouch of stripper clips loaded with ammo in case I run into trouble in the woods.

I would have to say mine would be my Marlin 336 in 30-30 with some skinner tactical peep sights I love that rifle and don't see me changing to anything else in the near future.

Savage 110, bought from a friend who got it on a whim in 2000. First in 7mm remington magnum, now in .300 winchester magnum. This was the 3rd centerfire I bought. I dont know how many deer and goats its put in the freezer. I shot almost 1000 rnds thru it before I re-barreled it in 09. Ive only shot a dozen or so animals since changing it to .300.

Newfalguy, you might be my neighbor,as I live in the middle of nowhere Nebraska. As for your question,I used a .444 for many years in Florida for deer and hogs.It was hard to beat for close to medium ranges, smooth and quick to the shoulder, easy to track moving game with a low power scope, and what an impact on the other end.Never ,ever did I have to blood trail an animal hit with that rifle.Since moving west,I use my tang safety Ruger M-77 in .30-06.
