What's your favorite load using W231 and a 200 gr. SWC in .45 ACP?

Tried a load using WST that is supposed to be the cat's meow. Wasn't overly impressed with WST. I am curious to see what 231 will do. I am using the 200 gr. Missouri Bullet SWC. What's your favorite charge. Looks to me like a mid range load of 5.0 grains might fill the bill. ;)

In the .45 with W231 I like 5.5 of W231 with a 200 grain lead SWC. Will usually make USPSA Major power factor (825 fps) or slightly better.

Accurate and pleasant to shoot.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

By coincidence this afternoon at the range I was shooting 200Gr SWC 5.5Grs w231. This is the first seven rounds fired from a Springfield 1911-A1 from 20yds standing. I’ve used this load for several decades but have been shooting 230Gr-Ball equivalent of late. I’ve experienced no problems in different 1911 pistols over the years of use with the 200Gr-SWC/5.5Grs W231.

I use 5.0gr of W231 under a 200gr SWC. This load gave me a 1" group at 25 yards from my TRP. When I used 5.5gr , the group opened up. When using 230gr LRN, 5.5gr of W231 showed to be the better load.

I use the 200gn MBC RNFP and 5.0gn of HP38 at 1.195 oal. I also had the groups open up when I went higher. I don't know the length of the SWC as compared to the RNFP, but when I went from 1.225 to 1.195 it really made a difference in my groups.

5.6 Gr W231 w/ Mo Bullets 200 Grain LSWC. Runs about 870fps giving me a bit of breathing room for chronos on cold days.

5.5gr of Win 231 200gr lswc H&G#68.Very accurate, made power factor back in the day and did not beat your gun up or the shooter.

My target load has been 5.0-5.1 gr. of 231 under an H&G68/200 gr. bullet. In my SA1911, that chronos about 820.

(Interestingly enough, 5.0-5.1 gr. of 231 under a 200-gr. LTC in 10mm gave about 910-920 from my SA Omega.)

Well, I thought it was interesting.

HP38 and W231 are the same powders, just different labels.

I also load 5.5 grs of 231 with cast 200 gr SWC.

That is my favorite combination, too! I didn't see much difference between 5.0 and 5.2 of HP38/W231, but more than 5.2 and the groups started to open more.

Any feeding issues with that SWC in 1911's???
Most 1911 will feed SWC loaded to 1.25" OAL. Some will tolerate longer OAL 1.26"+. Some, like my Sig 1911 with very short leade, will not fully chamber 1.25" and must be loaded shorter at 1.245" OAL or shorter.

yet another 5.0 grains hp-38 under 200 lswc. Fed 150 primers. Hp-38 can be real accuracy sensitive to slightly differnet powder charges. May help to experiment/deviate a little.

I'm curious, what was the WST load? I shoot 5.0 grains behind a 200 gr bullet all the time and I like the results.

k4swb, I used 4.7 grains. It is a decent load just not what I expected after reading the hype at another forum. ;)
