Which is to say "the revolver that doesn't fit in your pocket but still gets carried a lot". :)

The girlfriend is giving me a gift certificate to El Paso Saddlery, and I've been on the lookout for used S&Ws, so I'm gonna need to have a holster built for the gun I haven't found yet, right?

I'm considering 3" J-frames IWB or OWB, 3" K-frames IWB and OWB, and various L & N frames, GP-100, etc. but imagine they're a bit big to conceal easily.

So what do you guys like, and how do you carry it?

Probably the Ruger SP101. For IWB/OWB, I'd get the 3" version though. I went with the 2 1/4" in case I decided to pocket carry it rather than IWB.

The Model 60 with the 3" barrel is a fine gun. Shoots well and is nice and slim for IWB carry.

For K frames try to find a Model 10 or model 12 snubbie. They have six shot cylinders and are a little wider then a J frame. I can carry mine IWB but prefer to carry OWB. Both are 2" barrel.

I know people who carry a model 10 with the 4" barrel IWB. It can be done but a J frame would be a better fit to me.

J frame 642 in a triple K IWB holster at 4 o'clock most of the time. The alternative is a CZ-75 compact in a Bianchi holster on the belt with the 642 in the pocket for back up.

I don't have anything that doesn't fit my pocket that gets carried a lot. If it don't fit my pocket, it ain't practical for carry.

My most carried gun is a Kel Tec P11, followed by a Taurus 85SSUL. I have this 3" Taurus M66 I carry IWB occasionally if and when I need to and can, usually in the depths of winter when it's really cold, like 60 degrees, and I can wear a vest or something for a cover garment and not soak it in sweat inside 10 minutes, and I have carried my Ruger P90 occasionally in a Sparks Summer Special.

I'd buy a fanny pack, but it's just not me.

Oh, I have carried my scoped .30-30 Contender in an UM's shoulder rig under my hunting coat after sitting on the stand all morning and stopping into a convenience store on the way home for coffee, does that count?:D

4" 629. I alternate between that and a 1911 for most carry purposes.

Harldy even know it's there...

I should be receiving a simply rugged holster for a S&W 620 in about two weeks.

I can't say enough good things about this revolver. And after trying (and somewhat succeeding) in carrying a 4" Redhawk, this much smaller revolver should carry like a dream.

2-3/4" Ruger Speed Six in stainless works best for me. Colt DS is a close second. I carry both IWB on OSS-style shoestring "holster". Good and cheap.

Kind of Blued,
If you're looking for a revolver to carry on your belt IMO there's nothing like a 3" K frame. (unless it's a 2.5" K frame lol) A S&W M65, M13 or M19 would be great. If you don't feel the need for a Magnum a nice M10, M15 or M64 would be great too.

A 3" Model 66 would be ideal, but they're relatively few in number, and pricey. My only viable option is GunBroker, so I'm keeping an eye on it.

I'll probably save up for one anyway, as well as few other discontinued S&Ws that "make a lot of sense". I'd willingly spend $1000+ on a scoped hunting rifle that I'll use twice a year... why shouldn't I spend that much on a gun that I'll "use" 12 hours per day, 200 or so days/year?
